Job Purpose: THRIVE 2 is a three-year integrated resilience and development programme implemented by Concern Worldwide Liberia in District 2B, Grand Bassa

County, aimed at improving the health, nutrition, livelihoods, education, and overall wellbeing of vulnerable rural households. Building on the achievements and

lessons learned from THRIVE Phase 1, the project will support women, children, adolescents, youth, and smallholder farming households through climate smart

agriculture, improved WASH services, strengthened nutrition and health systems, inclusive education interventions, and community savings mechanisms. THRIVE 2

places strong emphasis on sustainability, systems strengthening, gender equality, youth empowerment, and community ownership to ensure long term resilience and

inclusive development.

Responsibilities:

Programme Implementation:

  • Prepare weekly and monthly activity plans, identifying and timely requesting the resources required for effective implementation of programme activities.
  • Mobilise and organise communities to identify and analyse contextual social problems, challenges and opportunities through participatory research and

demonstrations in relation to climate change.

  • Support groups dynamics, including establishing farmer groups, CSLAs and work with them to establish functional leadership structures.
  • Work with the communities and relevant local stakeholders to conduct natural resource mapping and develop community action plans.• Assists programme participants and their communities to identify and mobilize local resources and skills required for attainment of sustainable natural

resources management, bee keeping and Enterprise development.

  • Collaborate with the local government authorities, Ministry of Agriculture authorities Lead Farmersto facilitate necessary trainings and empowerment of

participants, with the support of other members from the programme team.

  • Ensure performance data is collected for reporting and learning purpose

Mainstreaming Gender, HIV/AIDs, and other cross-cutting issues:

  • Support gender mainstreaming amongst programme participants, HIV/AIDs including hygiene and sanitation promotion, and ensure they are adequately

mainstreamed in all activities.

  • Undertake activities in line with the programme objectives, to promote sustainable behavioural change, as relates to gender and environmental practices that

inhibit equitable and sustainable development of the communities.

Participatory Monitoring and Learning:

  • Ensure that programme participants, and their local structures actively participate in, and undertake monitoring activities in order to address real local needs.
  • Ensure that best practices and success stories are documented and shared.
  • Undertake routine monitoring of programme inputs, activities and outputs to facilitate identification of implementation gaps and keep programme fit for

purpose.

Reporting:

  • Prepare field activity reports and submit to the project supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all work done with communities is carried out in a manner that is respectful and sensitive to local culture, community needs and gender equality.
  • Ensure that programme participants and stakeholders have clear information about the programme activities as appropriate and relevant to them.
  • Keep and maintain up-to-date register of programme participants.

Accountability

In line with Concern’s commitments under the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS):

  • Work with relevant colleagues to ensure that the Feedback Complaints and Response Mechanism (FCRM) is functional and accessible, that feedback and

complaints are welcomed and addressed;

  • Work with relevant colleagues to ensure that information about CRM, safeguarding and expected staff behaviour is disseminated among programme

participants and communities.

  • Adhere to at all times to Concern’s policies, guidelines and standards.
  • Be aware of, understand and comply with all of Concern’s Code of Conduct and Associated policies (P4, finance, logistics, HR, security management, etc.).
  • Undertake other related duties as may reasonably be assigned by the CD, PD or line manager.
  • Responsible for upholding and promoting Concern’s values, including our workplace equality, diversity and inclusion, and safeguarding values.
  • Required to participate and contribute as necessary towards Concern’s emergency response as and when required.
  • Responsible for upholding and promoting Concern Liberia ’s environmental policies and strategies
  • Support in monitoring and coaching of National implementing activities when the need arises. Experience & Qualification:
  • The position requires a minimum of Diploma from a recognized institution, with a bias in any of the programmatic areas (Agriculture and livelihood)
  • A Certificate of training in the relevant fields – climate change is a plus.
  • At least 2 years of practical experience in implementing a community-based donor-funded programme within Liberia with NGO(s) or government in rural

areas.

  • Practical knowledge of Agriculture, CSLA and business skills is essential.
  • The ability to ride a motorcycle in remote and rough terrains, or the willingness to learn.

Other Skills and Competencies:

  • Technical skills and competencies in implementing livelihoods and climate change activities.
  • Community participatory appraisal and facilitation methods and tools.
  • Flexibility to live and work in remote communities.
  • Ability to work as a team with others, and with local stakeholders.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills, with fluency in written and spoken English
  • An excellent understanding of the contextual issues surrounding gender, HIV/AIDs, environmental and socio-cultural practices in the programme areas.
  • Basic computer skills, including hands-on use of the internet, Word and Excel packages.
