TITLE: Accountant: Volunteers for Sustainable Development in Africa
LOCATION: Head Office in Monrovia, with travel in rural areas where VOSIEDA has her activitiesJOB TYPE: Full Time (Initial 1-year renewal based on performance)
ROLE PURPOSE:

· The accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate and complete accounting records, supporting sound financial control, and ensuring the timely processing of transactions for VOSIEDA’s institutional and project operations.

 

· The post ensures compliance with Liberian statutory requirements, donor regulations, budgets, and internal policies through proper bookkeeping, reconciliations, documentation, payroll support, financial reporting, and audit readiness.

 

The accountant contributes to the integrity, transparency, and accountability of VOSIEDA’s finance function and supports efficient use of resources across grants and core operations.

 

Grade/Level: To be assigned in line with VOSIEDA HR and salary scale

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Finance Manager

Staff directly reporting to this post: None directly; may guide finance interns or temporary support staff

ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

Founded in 2000, Volunteers for Sustainable Development in Africa (VOSIEDA) is a Liberian nonprofit and a network of development professionals working to promote prosperity, reduce extreme poverty, and strengthen peace and stability in Liberia and West Africa’s Mano River Union Basin region. VOSIEDA’s work focuses on saving the planet and fighting extreme poverty among women, youth, children, and other excluded groups. We advance community solutions to address development challenges and empower local people to care for nature that sustains all lives.

VOSIEDA works across five signature programs to empower and support local communities to promote sustainable development to end extreme poverty, its root causes, and consequences in Liberia and West Africa’s Mano River Basin region, including 1). Climate Change & Environmental Sustainability, 2) Food Security & Livelihoods Enhancement, 3) Women’s Empowerment & Gender Equality, 4) Governance & Social Development,

5) Media & Civic Society Strengthening.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

 

Financial Management and Reporting

· Record all financial transactions accurately in the accounting system.

· Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management and donors.

· Reconcile bank statements, cashbooks, and other financial accounts.

· Support the preparation of project budgets, forecasts, and expenditure tracking.

· Ensure timely submission of financial reports in line with donor requirements.

 

Compliance and Internal Controls

· Ensure all financial transactions comply with VOSIEDA’s financial policies and donor regulations.

· Maintain internal control systems to safeguard assets and prevent fraud.

· Support internal and external audit processes by providing required documentation and explanations.

· Verify and process payments, ensuring proper authorization and supporting documentation.

Budgeting and Financial Planning

· Budget preparation and monitoring project expenditures against budgets.

Cash and Asset Management

· Support the management of petty cash and ensure proper documentation of all transactions.

· Monitor cash flow and prepare fund requests to ensure program continuity.

Payroll and Statutory Compliance

· Prepare monthly payroll and ensure timely payment of salaries and statutory deductions.

Documentation and Filing

· Maintain organized and up-to-date financial records, invoices, vouchers, and receipts.

4. Expected Deliverables:

· Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual Financial Reports (accurate, timely, donor-compliant).

· Updated Financial Ledgers & Reconciliations (bank, cashbook, accounts).

· Audit-Ready Documentation (organized vouchers, receipts, invoices, payroll records).

· Cash Flow Reports & Fund Requests (ensuring program continuity).

· Payroll Reports (salaries, deductions, statutory remittances).

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or Finance.

· Minimum of 7 to 10 years of relevant professional experience in Applied Accounting and Finance

· Previous experience in an NGO, CSO, or donor-funded environment is strongly preferred.

· Demonstrated knowledge of Finance Management, Budget planning and development, financial reporting, and records management,

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook.

· Proficiency in QuickBooks

· Strong ability to coordinate multiple financial functions and meet deadlines effectively
