The Energising Development Programme (EnDev, www.endev.info) improves the lives of the most vulnerable people by providing access to energy in Africa, Asia and Latin America, ensuring no one is left behind. EnDev is funded by Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. EnDev has been active in Liberia since 2012. EnDev cooperates with government institutions, national and local non-governmental organization, donors and the private sector. In Liberia, the programme’s interventions support the development of clean cooking and off-grid solar sectors. The present position will support the cooking energy component. EnDev is supporting market development through capacitating Improved Cookstove (ICS) or sustainable biomass fuel producers, supporting innovation in cooking energy efficiency measures, support standardization and testing procedure for cooking energy products, and supporting a favorable enabling environment, incorporating gender-promoting strategies.

Position: Advisor Cooking Energy

Location: Monrovia

Contract Period: Six Months (with the possibility of an extension)

Purpose of the post

The Advisor is responsible for advising on and developing and implementing of interventions in the clean cooking sector close coordination with the Project Manager and relevant local and international stakeholders.

She/he reports to the Project Manager.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing interventions under the clean cooking component, such as conceptualizing and implementing trainings and business development support (BDS), providing policy advice and capacity development to private sector and government stakeholders on clean cooking, as well as awareness raising
  • Developing and implementing interventions promoting access to finance (results-based financing)
  • Identifying and networking with relevant government, private and civil society actors
  • Designing, preparing and implementing activities, workshops and trainings for private, public and civil society stakeholders
  • Innovation and knowledge management within EnDev Liberia as well as with headquarters
  • Ensuring the use of gender-sensitive approaches in implementation processes and activities
  • Supporting other activities and interventions of EnDev Liberia as required
  • Follow up on deadlines, commitments made, actions taken and coordination of collection and submission of the reports to GIZ and/or other donors.

Required qualifications, competences and experience

Qualifications

  • Masters/MSc in engineering, environmental science, business, economy, resource management or similar with a focus on renewable energy and/or natural resource management

Professional experience

  • At least 4 years professional experience in a comparable position
  • At least 3 years professional experience in the energy sector in Liberia
  • Practical experience and knowledge of clean cooking technologies and market development of clean cooking
  • Practical experience and knowledge of energy access and private sector development
  • Good network and knowledge about important stakeholders in cooking energy and/or within the biomass fuel production sector in Liberia
  • Working experience in international organizations

Other knowledge, additional competences

  • Good working knowledge of MS Office application (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams), email and internet
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, knowledge of German will be considered as an advantage
