Who we are:

medica Liberia (mL) formerly medica mondiale Liberia is a non-governmental women’s right organization working in Liberia. Our Organization offers support to women and girls affected by sexual gender based violence (SGBV). Since 2006, medica Liberia has been implementing programs for women and girls in Liberia’s South-eastern parts and recently extended its coverage to Montserrado and Margibi Counties respectively, through funding from the German Government and other donors. In this regard, mL is looking to hire a qualified individual for the below position:

 

  • Position Title: Advocacy Officer

Duty Station: Montserrado & Margibi Counties (with frequent travels to other projects sites)

Position Status: Full Time

Reports to: Country Director

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The advocacy officer will use programing based approaches of networking; internally and externally. Coordinating ml activities and promoting awareness and activities geared towards advocacy, women empowerment and ending violence against women and girls.

Responsibilities

  • Advocacy
  • Implement mL advocacy strategy and recommend new strategies and techniques geared to ending violence against women in Liberia.
  • Assist in the preparation of advocacy related publications, press releases, position

statements etc.

  • Assist in the development of analytical reports based on field reports
  • Lead research activities on major public policy issues relating to women’s rights.
  • Build and strengthen relationship with key stakeholders including the media
  • Identify key issues for mL’s work and programs to address those issues
  • Serve as a liaison between mL and line Ministries
  • Assist Legal, Sexual Reproductive Health and Psychosocial department to organize awareness and advocacy activities at community level
  • Increase mL network through establishing contacts and updating mL partner’s director with relevant contacts
  • Ensure mL contribute to the development of laws and policies on women’s rights
  • Research and inform mL on women rights laws
  • Communication
  • Support the improvement and development of communications material for the organization such as news brochure, annual report, DVD and poster for advocacy and fundraisings.
  • Lead the public relations for the organization through engagement with the media including social media
  • Ensure mL’s advocacy goals are communicated adequately
  • Support the development and updating of mL’s website

 

  • Fundraisings
  • Researching and document suitable funding opportunities/grants with details on requirements and restrictions, target groups, areas of interest, deadlines.
  • Creating a database of potential sponsors
  • Contribute to writing of grant applications.
  • Supporting activities as needed in regards to fundraising;


  • Planning and Reporting
  • Prepare and submit weekly, monthly work plans to supervisor
  • Prepare regular operational reports in keeping with reporting schedule
  • Design training schedule and submit to supervisor

Qualification and Experience:

  • At least 3-5 years proven knowledge and experience of delivery in advocacy and campaigning strategies
  • Proven knowledge and experience of the women rights context in Liberia
  • Proven knowledge and experience of grant concept and proposals writing
  • An advanced degree, postgraduate degree in the social sciences or other relevant profiles with emphasis in women/gender studies.
  • Extensive experience in working with women led organizations
  • Fluency in English and advanced communication skills are essential
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Good computer and social networking skills
