TITLE: Business Development Officer: Volunteers for Sustainable Development in Africa
LOCATION: Head Office in Monrovia, with extensive travel in rural areas where VOSIEDA has her activitiesJOB TYPE: Full Time (Initial 1-year renewal based on performance)
ROLE PURPOSE:

The Business Development Officer leads VOSIEDA’s resource mobilization, donor positioning, proposal development, and strategic partnership efforts. The role identifies and tracks funding opportunities, coordinates competitive concept notes and proposals, strengthens donor and partner engagement, and supports the growth of a diversified project portfolio aligned with VOSIEDA’s mission, strategic priorities, and compliance standards.

Supervises: May coordinate interns, consultants, and proposal support teams as assigned

ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

Founded in 2000, Volunteers for Sustainable Development in Africa (VOSIEDA) is a Liberian nonprofit organization and a network of development professionals working to promote prosperity, reduce extreme poverty, and strengthen peace and stability in Liberia and the West Africa Mano River Union Basin region. VOSIEDA’s work focuses on saving the planet and fighting extreme poverty among women, youth, children, and other excluded groups. We advance community solutions to address development challenges and empower local people to care for nature that sustains all lives.

VOSIEDA works across five signature programs to empower and support local communities to promote sustainable development to end extreme poverty, its root causes, and consequences in Liberia and West Africa’s Mano River Basin region, including 1). Climate Change & Environmental Sustainability, 2) Food Security & Livelihoods Enhancement, 3) Women’s Empowerment & Gender Equality, 4) Governance & Social Development,

5) Media & Civic Society Strengthening.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

 

· Lead opportunity scanning and maintain an up-to-date pipeline of grants, tenders, calls for proposals, CSR opportunities, and strategic partnership prospects relevant to VOSIEDA.

· Coordinate proposal development processes from capture planning to submission, including timelines, compliance checks, document assembly, quality assurance, and internal approvals.

· Draft and/or coordinate high-quality concept notes, technical proposals, budgets, capability statements, expressions of interest, partnership notes, and due diligence documents.

· Build and manage relationships with donors, foundations, embassies, UN agencies, private sector actors, and consortium partners to expand VOSIEDA’s visibility, partnerships, and funding base.

· Work closely with program, finance, M&E, procurement, HR, and field teams to gather evidence, refine theories of change, develop results frameworks, and prepare realistic implementation and budget assumptions.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Development Studies, Project Management, Public Administration, Social Sciences, or a related field. A master’s degree is an advantage.
  • Training or certification in proposal development, grants management, project management, business development, fundraising, procurement, or donor compliance is an added advantage.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in business development, resource mobilization, donor engagement, or proposal development in the NGO/development sector.
  • Demonstrated experience developing competitive proposals and donor-facing documents; strong skills in budgeting, log frames, compliance matrices, and partnership coordination.
  • Excellent written and spoken English; strong computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, and online portals; ability to travel within Liberia; high integrity and confidentiality
