Internews is an international non-profit organization dedicated to giving people the news and information they need, the ability to connect, and the means to make their voices heard. Since its formation in 1982, Internews has worked in more than 100 countries worldwide. Working in Sub-Saharan Africa since 1998, Internews currently has offices and projects throughout the region with its regional office in Nairobi. Internews implements the USAID Media Activity program in Liberia that seeks to enhance the human and institutional capacity of the media while advocating for and maintaining current media freedoms to reliably carry out responsible journalism, drive reforms, and increase revenue, with the goal of expanding Liberians’ engagement with government and increasing accountability.
As part of USAIID Media Activity Support for original, citizen-led media campaigns, Internews Liberia now invites Liberian registered Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to participate in an open call for applications (with a particular emphasis on youth, artists, filmmakers, citizen journalists, LGBTQ, PwD, and grassroots CSOs) to submit an application for creative, citizen-led campaigns that utilize mainstream or social media to raise community awareness of critical governance and development issues.
From submissions received through the application call, ten thoroughly assessed applicants will be invited to a three-day Media Campaign & Advocacy workshop where they will learn new media advocacy skills and be coached to develop their project ideas.
The workshop will be followed by a “pitch event,” where a panel of judges will select three winners (one in each category) to receive small grants and mentoring from the Media Activity team to carry out their awareness projects.
Projects could include a targeted social media campaign, producing and distributing video/radio dramas on governance issues, or hosting an advocacy workshop for grassroots accountability.

Workshop Objectives:
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of strategic communications and its importance in advancing the goals of CSOs.
• Enhance skills in crafting impactful messages and engaging storytelling techniques to reach target audiences.
• Learn effective techniques for utilizing various communication channels, including social media, press releases, and public speaking.
• Explore strategies for building relationships with media outlets and leveraging media opportunities for CSO campaigns.
• Gain insights into successful advocacy campaigns and best practices for influencing policy and decision-makers.
• Foster networking opportunities and peer learning among participants from different CSOs.

Application Process:
To apply for the communications and advocacy workshop, please submit the following documents:
• Profile of CSO or CBO including legal status
• Updated curriculum vitae (CV) or resume of the applicant. The applicant must be :
• actively working with a registered civil society organization.
• having a strong interest in improving their communication and advocacy skills.
• Fluency in written and spoken English is required, as the workshop will be conducted in English.
• Be available to attend the full duration of the workshop.
• A letter of motivation, outlining your interest in the workshop and how it aligns with your organization’s goals (maximum 500 words)

All the above documents must be sent to liberia@internews.org and copy jmassah@internews.org and lbach@internews.org no later than Saturday, June 10, 2023.

Selection Process:
Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee, and successful applicants will be notified via email subsequently. Due to limited space, only a limited number of participants will be selected.

We encourage you to share this opportunity with colleagues and other CSOs who may benefit from this workshop. Should you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at liberia@internews.org or jmassah@internews.org
