Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a German federal enterprise

Development (BMZ). However, GIZ also operates on behalf of other German ministries and public and
private bodies in Germany and abroad.

GIZ was active in Liberia from 1974 until the outbreak of civil war in 1989. In 2010, GIZ reopened a
regional office for Sierra Leone and Liberia in Monrovia, and is supporting sustainable economic
development through various projects.
On behalf of Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, GIZ supports
the Government of Liberia in the health sector through a project focusing on the improvement of
surveillance and response system for diseases, especially those with epidemic potential in the partner
counties in south east Liberia.
For GIZ Health Project – Health System Strengthening and Epidemic Prevention (HSSEP)
project we seek applications from suitable national candidates for
Position: Caretaker
Location: Harper
Contract Period: Subject to agreement of the commissioner, this post is available up to August 2021
with an option of extension.
Responsibilities
The Caretaker reports to the Head of Administration and Finance. The caretaker is responsible for
▪ maintaining the garden of the project office premises
▪ maintaining and servicing office areas, extensions and systems including electricity
(LEC/generator), lighting, water, ACs,
▪ carrying out minor repairs, running errands and carrying out other tasks needed to run the office
smoothly
Tasks
1. Gardening
The caretaker
▪ Plants flowers and plants
▪ Maintains the lawns, trees, plants and flowers including watering, mowing and cutting
▪ Ensures the exteriors of the premises are kept clean
▪ Maintains and repairs the (technical) equipment for site management (lawnmower, garden tools
etc.)
2. Maintaining office areas, extensions and systems
The caretaker
▪ Maintains and service GIZ project office areas and extensions (e.g. bicycle stands, garages)
including mounting signs, door and name plates, and putting up pictures and maps
▪ Ensures functioning of electricity supply, including switching on/off/between different supplies
(LEC/generator), reporting need for new fuel ahead of time, reporting damages and carrying out
minor repairs
▪ Ensures functioning of ACs and fans including reporting damages and carrying out minor
repairs
▪ Ensures functioning of water systems including reporting damages and carrying out minor
repairs
3. General Tasks
The caretaker
▪ Reports damages, carries out minor repairs as required to keep office areas and equipment
operational, and organises and monitors maintenance and repair
▪ Runs errands, e.g. buying lunch, delivering letters etc.
▪ Makes photocopies and scans documents as needed
Required qualifications, competences and experience
Qualifications
▪ primary school education
Professional experience
▪ At least 1-3 years’ work experience in a comparable position with references including
experience in maintaining gardens and operating generators
Other knowledge, additional competences
▪ good spoken English and basic written English
▪ sensitivity in handling and disposing of documents which may be important
▪ reliability and good organisational skills, appropriate appearance and clothing
▪ Previous experience with GIZ or German cooperation is advantage
Note: The post will be based in Harper. The Project director and most of the team working for HSSEP are
based in Monrovia. Team members/project director will undertake frequent travels to Harper and the south
east of Liberia. There is a project office in Harper that will be used by the candidate we are herewith looking
