POSITION : Chief Accountant
REPORTING TO : Senior Manager, Accounting and Tax

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Chief Accountant will oversee the Accounting Department and manage all financial operations. The role requires a strong background in accounting principles, financial management, and leadership. The position also requires strategic thinking, analytical skills, and the ability to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
The incumbent will oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial operation.
More specifically the role will include:
• Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and controls to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Manage month-end and year-end closing processes, including financial statement preparation, reconciliation, and analysis.
• Review and approve journal entries, adjustments, and reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
• Prepare and analyze financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses to support decision-making and strategic planning.
• Coordinate and liaise with external auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory agencies to facilitate audits, tax filings, and compliance requirements.
• Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and financial performance metrics to identify risks, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
• Provide financial analysis, insights, and recommendations to senior management to support business decisions and initiatives.
• Mentor, coach, and develop accounting staff, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
• Stay updated on accounting standards, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and continuous improvement in financial management processes.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration is an added advantage. Professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA,) is required.
• Proven experience as a Chief Accountant or similar role, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting and financial management. Experience with Telcos is an added advantage.
Experience:
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, standards, and regulations (e.g., GAAP, IFRS).
• Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks).
• Excellent leadership and team management skills.
• Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to communicate complex financial concepts effectively to non-financial stakeholders.
• Proficiency in accounting software and financial management tools.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in work.
• Integrity and professionalism in handling confidential financial information.
• Adaptability and willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and regulations.
