Democracy International (DI) is seeking aCivic Education Program Officerto provide programmatic support to the multi-year Liberia Elections And Democracy (LEAD) Activity. This is a full-time position to be based in Monrovia, Liberia.
The purpose of this new USAID/Liberia project is to support the deepening of democracy in Liberia so that elected representatives can increasingly govern in the interest of their constituents. To do so, LEAD will build the skills of future leaders to run for office and work on campaigns, support the institutionalization of civic education, and build the capacity of the election commission and civil society to manage electoral cycles.
The position would be contingent upon project award to DI.
Responsibilities:
- The Civic Education Program Officer will manage and support implementation of activities related to formal and informal civic education;
- Coordinate with the Ministry of Education, schools, teachers, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders and experts to finalize and roll out a revised Citizenship Education curriculum to select primary schools, providing management, expertise, and operational support as needed;
- Coordinate with staff, partners, and vendors to develop civic education messaging and implement civic education activities targeted at voting-age students and adults;
- Manage engagement and support of partners and operationalize partner events, activities, and networks;
- Manage participation in collaborative activities among partners and stakeholders, and facilitate exchange of information;
- Collaborate with team members across project objectives to ensure that all project activities and results are coordinated and mutually reinforcing;
- Coordinate with Grants Officer to ensure technical coordination and oversight of partner programmatic activities;
- Support M&E team to collect data on indicators as related to Objective, as well as provide backstop support during impact evaluation; and
- Liaise with Home Office management team and contribute to reporting as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, political science, social administration, development studies, management, or other relevant field; Master’s degree preferred;
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience, including programmatic and/or technical experience working in civic education, required;
- Experience with USAID programming preferred;
- Experience working with civil society and/or NGOs preferred;
- Experience working with Liberian government agencies desirable;
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple demands, prioritize, and produce high-quality work under pressure;
- Commitment to accuracy in all tasks and attention to detail and follow-up is essential;
- Demonstrated experience of successful teamwork and good communication and interpersonal skills;
- Liberian citizenship required; and
- Professional fluency in English and working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools required.
