About PREVAIL:

PREVAIL, or the Partnership for Research on Vaccines and Infectious Diseases in Liberia, is a clinical research partnership between the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Liberian Ministry of Health.

Summary of Position

The position oversees the strategic planning, development, and coordination for media relations and communications to promote the PREVAIL clinical research program occurring in West Africa. Consults with leadership, management, stakeholders, communication liaisons, and other functional entities.

 

Description of Responsibilities

  • Responsible for drafting and finalizing the PREVAIL Communication Plan, including the implementation, monitoring, and updating of said plan. This plan will speak to both Traditional and social media. This will include such tasks as:
  • Identifying the strategy and policy around PREVAIL communications.
  • Identifying the range of Communication Products and Target Audiences.
  • Setting a work plan and tracker for communication activities.
  • Leading the writing of key communication products and facilitating writing inputs from other stakeholders.
  • Play a key role in preparing PREVAIL Communication Deliverables. Illustrative deliverables are Deliverable 2: Monthly Status Reports and Deliverable 28: Operational Workplan.
  • Lead in the drafting of key Communication Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs). This includes drafting and facilitating the SoP through the review process from start to finalization in accordance with PREVAIL’s approved SoP development process and compliance with TMG’s subcontract-relevant clauses. Guarantees awareness, implementation, and monitoring of said SoPs.
  • Monitor and track all of PREVAIL’s media platforms to assess media product reach, uptake, and quality of content and provide recommendations to address gaps identified.
  • Work closely with the Social Mobilization team on PREVAIL communication efforts.
  • Facilitate the Communications Working Group sessions and guarantee regular and effective coordination among team members.
  • Coordinates media and communications activities among the various departments to track and determine newsworthy activities and communication products promptly and in compliance with subcontract and USG policy and regulations.
  • Responsible for project management of the Communications Department including planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
  • Responsible for organizing the planning around PREVAIL Staff Town Hall sessions to include, sending out invites in a professional and timely manner with proper Teams or Zoom links; supporting the facilitation of the sessions; and guaranteeing proper follow-up to include sharing summaries of notes and finalized questions/answers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills

  • Ability to act as a liaison to create and maintain positive relationships within Liberia, U.S. agencies, and the public using established media outlets.
  • Ability to create viable press releases and manage public events.
  • Ability to create a communications protocol to effectively describe and promote using graphics, brochures, company or product fact sheets, logos, or other promotional products.
  • Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines consistently while adhering the strictest of quality standards.
  • Ability to write efficiently and fluently using the English language.
  • Strong copy/edit proficiency.
  • Most be a good and effective communicator with the ability to communicate complex information in a way the public and a layman can understand.
  • Most be comfortable with using MS Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint professionally.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or a relevant field. Preferred Job-related Experience: At least three (3) years of media/public relations experience is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years working with USG-funded projects in the development environment, with preference to having 5 plus years experience working on Communications for the U.S. Agency of International Development (USAID).
  • Familiarity with Liberian media and communications practices and policies, as well as exposure to other international donor communication practices and policies.
  • Strong network of media and communication relevant stakeholders.
