About PREVAIL:
PREVAIL, or the Partnership for Research on Vaccines and Infectious Diseases in Liberia, is a clinical
research partnership between the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Liberian
Ministry of Health
Summary of Position:
Oversees the strategic planning, development and coordination for the media relations and
communications to promote the PREVAIL clinical research program occurring in West Africa. Consults
with leadership, management, stakeholders, communication liaisons and other functional entities (e.g.
Social Mobilization Committee).
Description of Responsibilities:
▪ Manages the preparation of public relations projects, media advertising, and
recommends the media/communication strategy in collaboration with other key
stakeholders best suited to communicate research and community awareness
activities and results,
▪ Defines marketing and communication objectives and strategies, and
translates strategies into communication tactics, including project
management, planning, scheduling, and budgeting,
▪ Collaborates with appropriate team members to plan, develop, and
produce promotional tools and media vehicles to support awareness
strategies for the PREVAIL Program,
▪ Researches and develops content for communication and media activities,
▪ Facilitates internal communications, such as newsletters, communication
plansand other communication activities to support internal program
awareness
▪ Documents the PREVAIL Program, and
▪ Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation
of the function. Work is performed by 100% telecommunicating in Liberia.
Some international travel may be required.
▪ Other duties as assigned
Skills:
▪ Ability to act as a liaison to create and maintain positive relationships within Liberia, U.S.
agencies, and the public using established media outlets
▪ Ability to create viable press releases and manage public events
▪ Ability to create a communications protocol to effectively describe and promote
using graphics, brochures, company or product fact sheets, logos, or other
promotional products
▪ Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
▪ Ability to perform a variety of tasks simultaneously
▪ Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines consistently while adhering the
strictest of quality standards.
Qualifications
▪ Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations or four (4) years of related experience in lieu of
degree.
▪ Preferred Job-related Experience: At least eight (8) years of media/public relations experience
is required.
