Position Title: Communication Consultant

Duty Station: Monrovia, Montserrado County, Liberia

Position Status/Duration: Short-term Consultancy

Reports to: medica Liberia’s Program Coordinator

Project Background:

medica Liberia (mL) formerly medica mondiale Liberia is a non-governmental women’s rights organization working in Liberia. Our organization offers support to women and girls affected by sexual gender based violence (SGBV). Since 2006, medica Liberia has been implementing programs for women and girls in Liberia’s South-eastern parts and recently extended its coverage to Montserrado and Margibi Counties respectively, through funding from the German Government and other donors.

 

medica Liberia, is are seeking the expertise of a qualified Communications Consultant to contribute to our project: “Strengthening communities and institutions to promote the psychosocial health of women and girls affected by violence and increase their protection from gender-based violence in Montserrado and Margibi Counties, Liberia, in the context of the Covid-19 crisis.”

A central component of this project involves the implementation of the SASA Together Program. The SASA Together program, developed by Raising Voices, is a transformative initiative with a clear focus on addressing and preventing gender-based violence (GBV) while concurrently promoting gender equality. Guided by a holistic approach, the program serves as a catalyst for enduring change by actively engaging communities, institutions, and individuals. The shared endeavor seeks to challenge detrimental social norms and foster positive behavior change, ultimately establishing a more equitable and secure environment for all.

We invite a Communications Consultant to join our journey in effecting meaningful change and contributing to the well-being of women and girls impacted by violence in Montserrado and Margibi Counties. Through your expertise, dedication, and strategic communication, we aim to amplify our efforts and pave the way for a more inclusive and harmonious future.

Overview of the Communication Consultancy:

The aim of this consultancy is develop a Public Relations (PR) plan for the SASA Together program. The consultant will work closely with the program team to create communication strategies that effectively convey the program’s goals, impact, and strategies to relevant stakeholders and the general public.

Scope of Services:

Ensuring that the PR plan aligns with mL existing Branding and Marking Plan, the Communications Consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:

Message Development:

  • Conduct a thorough review of the SASA Together program, including its objectives, strategies, and target audience.
  • Develop clear and concise key messages that effectively communicate the program’s core concepts, impact, and importance to different stakeholders.
  • Ensure that the messages align with the program’s values and objectives, and are culturally sensitive and appropriate.

Public Relations (PR) Plan:

  • Develop a comprehensive PR plan outlining communication goals, target audiences, channels, and timelines.
  • Propose innovative communication strategies to enhance the visibility and reach of the SASA Together program.
  • Identify opportunities for media engagement, press releases, interviews, and events to raise awareness and interest in the program.
  • Provide recommendations for leveraging social media and digital platforms to amplify the program’s messages.

Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Collaborate closely with the SASA Together program team to ensure a deep understanding of the program’s objectives, strategies, and unique approach.
  • Engage in regular consultations with key stakeholders to gather input and feedback on message development and the PR plan.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare a detailed report outlining the developed messages, PR plan, and recommended communication strategies.
  • Present the report to the SASA Together program team for review and feedback.

Key Deliverables:

  • A comprehensive message framework that includes key messages tailored for different audiences (e.g., community members, stakeholders, donors, media).
  • A detailed PR plan outlining communication goals, target audiences, communication channels, and a timeline for implementation/Innovative strategies and recommendations for engaging media, organizing events, and utilizing digital platforms to amplify program visibility.
  • Draft content for press releases, media pitches, and other media engagement materials as outlined in the PR plan/Sample social media posts, blog articles, and other online content to promote the SASA Together program and engage online audiences.
  • A visually engaging presentation summarizing the key messages, PR plan, and communication strategies for internal and external presentations.
  • A comprehensive report documenting the entire process, rationale behind message development, and details of the PR plan.

Expertise and Experience:

The suitable consultant/team should have:

 

  • A bachelor’s degree in communications, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or related fields.
  • At least 3 years of experience in development organizations, including assessments and evaluations.
  • Knowledge of feminism, women’s rights, and SGBV issues.
  • Familiarity with medica Liberia’s work and the SASA! Together approach is a plus.
