Job Title: Communications Specialist

Project: USAID Liberia Foundational Skills Activity (FSA)

Program Overview

The Liberia Foundational Skills Activity (LFSA) is a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded program implemented by Chemonics International in Liberia. The project will work to increase the percentage of Liberian children accessing primary school and meeting government of Liberia learning standards.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and oversee the project-level communications strategy to share key progress updates, achievements, events and other strategic messages.
  • Produce high-quality reports, press releases, social media posts, and other communication materials related to project success and activities.
  • Provide high-quality writing and/or editing services for technical materials throughout the project life cycle, including quarterly and annual reports, deliverables, and outreach materials.
  • Support project communications and outreach activities, including radio activities, targeted for parents, community members and other stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the MERL Director to translate M&E performance data into communication deliverables and narratives of project performance.
  • Develop effective and collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders and continually promote outstanding client service and technical leadership.
  • Support the development of presentations, briefers, etc. for senior staff
  • Manage USAID branding strategy and marking of all communication materials and ensuring they comply with the USAID requirements
  • Provide support to sub-recipients in developing branding strategies and marking plans, specific to their sub-award activities and consistent with the larger LFSA branding and marking plan
  • Provide capacity building to sub-recipients on items related to communications, such as the development of success stories
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Deputy Chief of Party

 

Location of Assignment

The location of assignment is Monrovia, Liberia with travel throughout the program’s target six counties.

 

Supervision and Reporting

The Communications Specialist will report to and be supervised by the Deputy Chief of Party or his/her designee.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, education, or relevant field, required.
  • At least five (5) years of experience working in strategic communications planning and implementation on donor-funded programs.
  • Experience with a USAID-funded project is strongly preferred
  • Strong writing skills, with a demonstrated ability to write story-driven content about complex technical subjects.
  • Experience creating, or overseeing the management of, multimedia products such as video, animation, and podcasts.
  • Experience in developing and implementing digital communication strategies and campaigns across a range of channels (including social media)
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure with diverse teams and manage production schedules.
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
