Who we are:

medica Liberia (mL) formerly medica mondiale Liberia is a non-governmental women’s rights organization working in Liberia. Our Organization offers support to women and girls affected by sexual gender based violence (SGBV). Since 2006, medica Liberia has been implementing programs for women and girls in Liberia’s South-eastern parts and recently extended its coverage to Montserrado and Margibi Counties respectively, through funding from the German Government and other donors.

Project Background

The Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MGCSP), is implementing the Liberia Women Empowerment Project (LWEP) with financing from the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank Group. Medica Liberia is part of a consortium led by Plan International, serving as the Lead Service Provider.

medica Liberia is co-implementing the SASA! Together component of the project, which aims to transform gender norms, prevent violence against women and girls (VAWG), and empower women. This globally recognized methodology facilitates behavior change by addressing power dynamics and social norms related to gender inequality and gender-based violence (GBV).

Note: Hiring is contingent upon the availability of funding and the project’s approval for implementation.

Job Summary:

The Community Mobilizer will engage and mobilize target communities to participate in the project activities. This role is essential for building trust, ensuring community buy-in, and facilitating the successful implementation of project activities. The Community Mobilizer will also support social norms change activities by fostering dialogue on gender equality, addressing harmful practices, and promoting community-led solutions to shift attitudes and behaviors. These efforts will include organizing community conversations, facilitating awareness campaigns, and identify community activist to advocate for transformative change.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organize and facilitate community meetings, awareness campaigns, and training sessions to promote project goals and increase community engagement.
  • Lead the identification and recruitment of SASA! Together activists, Leadership Groups, Drama Groups, and Institutional Allies to drive social norms change and support the project’s implementation.
  • Provide mentorship and support to community stakeholders, ensuring they effectively understand and execute their roles in promoting gender equality and addressing harmful social norms.
  • Deliver education on the SGBV referral pathway, including its purpose and processes, and mentor community stakeholders on linking survivors to appropriate services through the pathway.
  • Build strong relationships with local leaders, women’s groups, and other stakeholders to foster collaboration and ensure the successful delivery of project activities.
  • Identify and support women participants and beneficiaries, ensuring their inclusion and active involvement in alignment with project objectives.
  • Collect and document data on community activities and stakeholder involvement to support project monitoring, evaluation, and reporting processes.
  • Provide regular feedback and updates to the Project Manager on community dynamics, progress, and challenges, offering insights to improve project strategies and outcomes.
  • Contribute to the project’s monitoring and assessment by identifying best practices, lessons learned, and areas for improvement, ensuring continuous enhancement of project activities and impact.
  • Perform other duties as required to ensure the successful implementation of the project.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Diploma or degree in Social Work, Community Development, or related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with communities, especially on women empowerment projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of local languages and cultures in project areas.
  • Ability to travel extensively to remote project sites.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience with the SASA! Together approach or similar methodologies focused on addressing power dynamics and gender norms.
  • Knowledge of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) processes
