Context
MSF (Doctors without Borders) is a non-profit medical organization, which provides assistance to populations in distress, victims of natural or man-made disasters and victims of armed conflict. MSF does so irrespective of gender, race, religion, creed, or political convictions. MSF observes neutrality and impartiality in the name of universal medical ethics and the right to humanitarian assistance. Its members undertake to respect their professional code of ethics and to maintain complete independence from all political, economic, or religious powers.
MSF has a long history in Liberia starting in the 1990’s until 2012 during both civils wars, followed by Ebola responses in 2014. The ongoing project of MSF in Montserrado County includes support to health authorities for the provision of free mental health & epilepsy treatment.
Summary of the Position
THE MAIN PURPOSE
| § Perform counseling and/or education sessions to patients, following different medical and mental health MSF protocols and procedures, in order to improve their psychosocial condition. |
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (non-exhaustive)
| • Identify the psychosocial, socio-economic and administrative needs for patients • Actively promote the availability of counselling services and carry out, individual or in group counseling, basic psycho educational sessions, to patients, their families (when needed), in order to alleviate their psychosocial difficulties within the project scope. • Refer patients to other specialists or other institutions for further assistance, when necessary in order to propose the best support available. • Participate in the creation of any material needed for counseling activities and look after it, • Keep files and statistics of daily activities and participate in team meetings to share experiences and discuss special cases with other counselors, preserving confidentiality • Inform the line manager of any problem of any kind arising during the day-to-day activities. • Take an active part in trainings, supervisions/ interventions, and support the Psychosocial supervisor/activities manager when necessary in doing sensitization for MSF staff or external partners about mental health /psychosocial issues. • Discuss difficulties and problems in counseling with the supervisor • Compile the data and statistic linked with MH activities and report to the MH activity Manager
MSF SECTION/CONTEXT SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES • Individual, family and group psychosocial counseling for the patients of our cohort in the health center and on outreach in the communities within the catchment area. • Strong collaboration and referral with and to the medical/psychiatric team and the psychosocial worker. • Proactively advocating for counseling services and support in the development of the counseling strategy together with the Psychologist Supervisor and MHAM • Participate in Clinic meetings, multidisciplinary case discussions, medical meeting, and team meetings in the health center and in the MSF office • Flexibility in the venue of work • Any other task assigned by the line manager.

REMUNERATION
According to the MSFW salary scale (Level 5) in Liberia
