Solidaridad West Africa (SWA) is a not-for-profit organisation that supports the sustainable
development of production systems in West Africa. We play a catalytic role by partnering with private
sector companies and other stakeholders to foster the development of socially responsible,
ecologically sound and profitable supply chains. Our activities in West Africa are focused on cocoa,
gold, oil palm, cotton, soy and other commodities.
As one of the Regional Expertise Centres (REC) within Solidaridad’s Network. We are part of a
growing global organization advocating and supporting sustainable and responsible production and
trade. SWA focuses on stimulating sustainable supply chains through introduction of innovations in
good practices, robust infrastructure, sustainable landscapes management and enabling policy.
The Solidaridad regional office is based in Accra, Ghana and currently has programmes and operations
in Sierra Leone, Cameroon, Cote D’Ivoire, Ghana, Liberia and Nigeria. The Solidaridad Liberia
Country Program, seeks to recruit a highly qualified and motivated Country Representative to be
based in our Monrovia office.
Position Summary
The position is responsible for strategic leadership and oversight of Solidaridad’s operations in the
Liberia country office, including program direction, country strategy development, program quality,
innovation and impact, human resource management, financial and organization’s assets stewardship,
resource acquisition, and administrative operations. The position manages, directs and shapes the
vision for implementing Solidaridad’s operations in the country and reports directly to the Regional
Director.
Major Responsibilities /Result Areas
Programme Implementation
• Leads the development of actionable annual plans based on the organization commodity Multi
Annual Stakeholder Plan (MASP)
• Leads policy research, dialogue and influencing by maintaining a sound relationship with
research, advocacy and policy experts at the country level to make supply chains efficient and
effective.
• Ensures, tracks and reports to the Regional Director on the programmes and projects
performance in the country
• Oversees all communication and marketing of the Organization in the country and promotes
cross country learning and knowledge sharing
Management and Operational Compliance
• Leads Human Resource development and management by ensuring a vibrant and efficient human
capital through effective and appropriate human resource policies and procedures
• Ensure that the control of expenditure and the disbursement of resources are aligned with
established procedures
• Maintains the financial and legal integrity of the organization whilst maintaining the highest financial
integrity and accountability
• Ensures compliance with all agreements with donors and partners and also all projects are
accountable to project principles
• Ensures that all project-specific audits are conducted and reported in a timely manner
• Ensures the organization’s projects and programme activities at the country level are in line with
established policies, principles and operating practices.
Stakeholder Management and Networking
• Facilitates the convening of and participation in appropriate roundtables and platforms
• Manages and collaborates with stakeholders and ensures that joint initiatives conform to
programme objectives
Fund Raising
• Works closely with the Regional Director and the fundraising team to develop fundraising
strategies
• Liaises with country representatives in the region to package impacts, results and learnings as the
basis for fundraising
• Takes leadership in working with Programme Managers and the M&E units to develop concept
notes and proposals for funding.
• Proactively searches and reports to commodity team of funding opportunities and facilitate the
response of manager to these opportunities
Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience
The following may be acquired through a combination of formal or self-education, prior experience
or on-the-job training
Minimum qualification required
University degree in Agricultural Business or related field. Masters preferred
Experience:
Ten (10) years working experience of which five (5) years should be in a senior management position
in a leading development organization
Prior working experience in international organizations, consultancies, bilateral agencies would be an
advantage
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Demonstrated understanding of policy analysis at national and international levels
• Proven skills in NGO and programme management
• Successful track record in proposal writing, fundraising and development of concept notes
• Outstanding written and oral communication skills
• Proven initiative, flexibility and enthusiasm in managing complex activities in a changing environment
• Demonstrated high-level interpersonal and cross-cultural skills including the ability to build
collaborative relationships internally and externally with sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, social and
political issues
• Ability to pragmatically solve problems, plan a course of action using analytical, conceptual, strategic
and forward-thinking abilities to achieve an effective resolution
• Demonstrated technical expertise in such areas as project, budget and resource management
• Strong leadership skills in such areas as fostering teamwork, developing and motivating others;
managing change; conflict resolution; initiative and flexibility
• Coalition building capabilities, external networking and experience in developing strategic
partnerships
