The Rural Human Rights Activists Program (RHRAP) is a Liberian non-governmental human rights and peace organization formed in December 1997 to educate rural communities on issues of human rights and social development. RHRAP is registered under the laws of the Republic of Liberia as a non-for-profit organization.

One of RHRAP’s core activities is focused on the protection and promotion of fundamental human rights, and conflict prevention in Liberia, RHRAP believes that an effective criminal justice system is a key aspect of the rule of law. And effective implementation of the rule of law, leads to genuine democracy. For the past four years, RHRAP’s Program “Initiative for Human Rights Promotionhas been focus on contributing to improving the Criminal Justice System of Liberia. RHRAP work with communities’ residents, and Liberia criminal justice institutions to protect and promote fundamental rights focusing on rural communities of Liberia. RHRAP work with community residents in empowering them to contribute to an effective criminal justice system concentrating on the procedures of arrest leading to detention and parole (Criminal Justice Highway) under the laws of Liberia which help local community residents to observe the rule of law as well as defend their fundamental rights as peaceful citizens.

The organization uses a holistic advocacy methods to engage the upper, middle and the grassroots levels of society to achieve its program objectives. RHRAP has established Citizens Action Committees in Zeanzue, Palala, and Gbarnga Towns in Bong County that are comprised of various segments of community residents and provided some training on how community residents can contribute to the maintenance of the rule of law in Liberia.

In furtherance of this, the Rural Human Rights Activists Program (RHRAP), and Serving Humanity, Development and Education are implementation of the project “Strengthening Human Rights of Prisoners Within Correctional Facilities and at Grassroots Level in Liberia” in Margibi, Bong and Nimba counties respectively with funding from the European Union (EU). The focus of this project is to work with stakeholders such as relevant Government Agencies and Ministries, and community

residents in contributing to the promotion of the Criminal Justice System in Liberia that will promote the adherence of the rule of law and promote the fundamental human rights of all without distinction.

Against this backdrop, RHRAP is seeking to hire County Coordinators for Nimba County to be stationed in Sanniquellie City with frequent travel to the project communities within the County.

The coordinator responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

Serve as primary representative of RHRAP in the execution of the program in the county. Liaise with county authorities including the Ministry of Justice, County Superintendents, community representatives, amongst others.

Liaise with all likeminded NGOs and INGOs operating within the county. Prepare and submit monthly activity reports for consolidation into one project report for the program.

Receive and record supplies on delivery; and keep an inventory of supplies; Facilitate drafting and delivery of invitation letters, distribution to invitees, and keep accurate record of all invited persons;

Follow up with invitees and confirm their participation into organize workshops, meetings and learning and sharing events;

Using the authorization from the Ministry of Justice, pay bi-monthly visit to the county maximum prison, police withholding cells and other detention centers, and courts; Support Project Coordinator to properly document activities carryout including workshops, stakeholder’s engagement meetings, preparing registration matrix for workshops and other activities, registering participants, deliver the original to the Project Coordinator for onward delivery to finance department for their records;

Attend all county NGO monthly forums/meetings and provide report on such meeting;

Keep track of activities and events in assigned county and compile and submit monthly report to the Program Coordinators to consolidate and prepare monthly update;

Perform all other tasks as assigned by management.

Personal quality:

Excellence written and verbal communication skill.

Familiarization with county of duty station

Ability to work with stakeholders including relevant government agencies and ministries, community representatives including women and youth groups amongst others. Proven skills in community relationships building and approaches;

A self-started ability to take responsibility, learn and commitment;

Willingness to work overtime and perform multiple tasks

Willingness to work and based in assigned county

Required knowledge/experience:

Must have at least an associate degree in any of the Social Sciences. 1st Degree is an added advantage;

Must have knowledge on policy issues relating to human rights;

Ability to Mediate and manage, solve potential conflict; At least three years of working experience in social work; Computer literate in MS word and Excel.
