JOB SUMMARY

The Crusher Operator / Electrician is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the rock crushing plant and associated equipment, while also performing electrical installation, maintenance, and repair duties to ensure minimal downtime. The role combines hands-on operational responsibility for crushing, screening, and conveying equipment with technical electrical expertise to diagnose faults, maintain electrical systems, and support the overall productivity and safety of plant operations. This position reports directly to the General Manager and plays a key role in maintaining consistent production output while safeguarding equipment and personnel.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Crusher Operations

  • Start up, operate, monitor, and shut down the primary and secondary crushers, screens, conveyors, and related plant machinery in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Regulate feed rates and monitor crusher settings to achieve required product size specifications and optimum output.
  • Monitor gauges, control panels, and instrumentation to detect abnormal operating conditions and respond promptly to prevent equipment damage or production loss.
  • Conduct routine pre-start and post-operation inspections of the crushing plant, conveyor systems, and mobile equipment.
  • Identify and clear blockages, tramp material, or other obstructions within the crushing and screening circuit.
  • Maintain accurate production, downtime, and maintenance logs on a daily basis.
  • Coordinate with the loader/excavator operators and plant labourers to ensure a steady, safe material feed to the crusher.
  • Support stockpile management and ensure product is directed to the correct storage areas.

Electrical Duties

  • Install, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, motors, control panels, switchgear, and wiring associated with the crushing plant and generator systems.
  • Diagnose electrical faults on crushers, conveyors, screens, and pumps, and carry out timely repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on electrical components, including motors, starters, cabling, and control systems.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.
  • Ensure all electrical installations and repairs comply with relevant safety codes and company standards.
  • Maintain the generator and backup power systems, ensuring reliable power supply to the plant.
  • Maintain an inventory of critical electrical spare parts and advise management on re-ordering needs.

Safety, Housekeeping and Compliance

  • Strictly adhere to all occupational health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.
  • Use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times and ensure safe lockout/tagout procedures are followed before servicing equipment.
  • Report all incidents, near misses, faults, and hazards to the General Manager immediately.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment around the plant and workshop area.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and training sessions as required.

General / Administrative

  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly operational and maintenance reports to the General Manager.
  • Assist in planning maintenance shutdowns and scheduled servicing of plant equipment.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the General Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Electrical Systems, Plant Operations, or a related technical field.
  • A minimum of 3 – 5 years of proven experience as a Crusher Operator, Plant Electrician, or in a similar combined operational/electrical role, preferably within a quarry, mining, or heavy industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated experience operating rock crushing plants, screens, and conveyor systems.
  • Solid working knowledge of industrial electrical systems, motor controls, and three-phase power systems.
  • Valid trade certification or apprenticeship completion in electrical work is an added advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and general plant maintenance is an advantage.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong understanding of crushing plant operations, including primary/secondary crushing, screening, and material handling.
  • Sound knowledge of electrical theory, circuitry, and industrial control systems.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, electrical schematics, and equipment manuals.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills under time-sensitive production conditions.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment.
  • Physically fit and able to work in an outdoor quarry environment, including exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work shifts, extended hours, and occasional weekends as production demands require.
  • High regard for safety, discipline, and adherence to company policies and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is based at the Edrine Rock Crusher Inc. plant/quarry site and involves regular exposure to dust, noise, vibration, and outdoor elements. The role requires the use of appropriate PPE at all times and may involve working at heights, in confined spaces, or around moving machinery. Standard working hours apply, with flexibility required to support production schedules, emergency repairs, and maintenance shutdowns.
