Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (2 weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
Under the direct supervision of the Customs & Shipment Supervisor, in the General Services Office at US Embassy Monrovia, Liberia. Incumbent prepares Customs, transportation and shipping documentation, and other logistics documents for incoming and outgoing freight shipments of personal property for the U.S. Government. Performs duties as expediter as required. Incumbent has no supervisory responsibilities.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must have a good working knowledge of regulations governing the preparation of documentation and other paperwork for the shipment of private and foreign government property, and of host country regulations governing customs clearance. Must have knowledge of each agency, office and section within the Mission, in order to ascertain specific agency/section data for all customs clearance procedures; and is required to be familiar with all American Officers at post, and their associated LE Staff to assist with expediting processes for internal and external customers.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Level I typing ability (less than 40 words per minute) is required. Must have basic computer operating skills and be able to process customs documents through host government’s propriety customs database program. Must have the ability to be tactful, yet effective, in dealing with host country customs and other officials, personnel of shipping companies, and international personnel. Must have driving skills and possess a valid driver’s license.

* IMPORTANT: Applicants who claim status as a preference-eligible U.S. Veteran must submit a copy of their most recent DD-214 (“Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty”), equivalent documentation, or certification. A “certification” is any written document from the armed forces that certifies the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions within 120 days after the certification is submitted by the applicant. The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service. Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.
** This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
