Reporting To: Transport Supervisor
Responsible For: nil
Job Purpose: The primary aim of the role is to perform a daily basis control inspection, loading, operation and routing of vehicle to ensure safety of passengers, goods and vehicle.
Responsibilities: Complete Daily Vehicle Check List for the assigned vehicle to confirm its roadworthiness; supervise loading of goods to ensure that vehicle is not overloaded and that goods are secure and concealed; ensure that all non-Concern staff passengers complete a liability waiver form; update the Vehicle Movement Board before each journey and upon arrival back at base; fill out the Vehicle Log Book and obtain staff signature for each journey; drive in a safe manner obeying all local Road Traffic Acts and complying with all Concern policies; avoid driving the vehicle on or through any roads, terrain, bridges, water, etc. that, in the driver’s opinion, pose a risk of injury to the passengers and/or damage to the vehicle or goods; in the event of any damage to or accident involving the assigned vehicle, promptly complete an Accident Report Sheet; promptly record any mechanical faults in the assigned vehicle’s Mechanical Fault Log; ensure that regular (every 2 hours unless otherwise directed), accurate phone contact is made (by the driver or the front seat passenger) with departure and destination base stations and remain on standby at all times for phone contact; prior to scheduled service, provide a written report to the Transport Manager detailing any mechanical faults or problems with the vehicle; ensure that the vehicle is parked safely at all times (when possible, inside a Concern compound); avoid leaving the vehicle unattended when it is parked outside a Concern compound; keep the exterior and interior of the vehicle clean; and
Undertake other related duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Country Director or the line manager Ensure that you are familiar with and abide by Concern’s Programme Participation Protection Policy and Code of Conduct.
Experience & Qualification:
∙ A minimum of High school Diploma from a recognized institution.
∙ At least 2 year of practical experience in driving for NGO/INGO
∙ Must have a valid driving license. Flexibility to drive vehicles in remote communities.
∙ Willing to support mechanics in their duties.
∙ Good interpersonal communication skills, with fluency in spoken English.
