General Position Summary

The Driver will provide safe transportation services for the MC program and support staff in the described AOR (Area of Responsibility) and provide travel safety advices to employees when necessary. He/she is expected to adhere to all traffic and MC safety rules and follow the transport guidelines and Mercy Corps’ Fleet Management Policy required by the MC transport department.

Essential Job Responsibilities

STRATEGY AND PLANNING

  • Operate MC vehicles as assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintain vehicle log sheets following MC policies/regulations.
  • Check the vehicle conditions after each trip/routinely – report needs and problems to transport management.
  • Adhere to all safety and communication protocols as advised by Mercy Corps and supervisor. Responsible for the safekeeping of all vehicle equipment, tools, first aid kits, spares that are in her/his assigned vehicle.
  • Keep the vehicle ready, clean, and on standby – ready for use at all times.
  • Report all maintenance needs of the vehicle to transport management regularly. Undertake field assignments as assigned.
  • Work night shifts at MC guesthouses – as assigned by Supervisor based on the Drivers’ working schedules with the understanding that night shifts and weekend deployments are 12-hour shifts. Adherence to all MC policies and procedures as outlined in MC policies and procedure manuals. Perform other tasks based on management’s requests in line with instructions from line manager.

Security

  • Ensure compliance with security procedures and policies as determined by country leadership. Proactively ensure that team members operate in a secure environment and are aware of policies. Know that staff safety is paramount in any situation.

Reports Directly to: Operations/Logistics Officer

Works Directly with Programs Teams,Support teams, Country Leadership

Supervises: None

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Valid driver’s license and experience driving 4×4 vehicles.
  • Must respect and adhere to all safety and traffic rules.
  • Must have about three (3) years of driving experience in a reputable organization Must know how to complete a vehicle log sheet.
  • A basic understanding of English and fluency in local Liberian English are required. Knowledge of routes, duty stations, project areas, the NGO and diplomatic community is required.
  • Knowledge about vehicles’ malfunctioning status.

Success Factors

The successful individual must be willing to travel out of Monrovia. He or she must understand basic safety guidelines. Knowledge of First aid is a plus. He or she must be diligent and committed to making this world a better place.
