Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a German federal enterprise

Most of our work is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and
Development (BMZ). However, GIZ also operates on behalf of other German ministries and public and
private bodies in Germany and abroad.

GIZ was active in Liberia from 1974 until the outbreak of civil war in 1989. In 2010, GIZ reopened a
regional office for Sierra Leone and Liberia in Monrovia, and is supporting sustainable economic
development through various projects.
On behalf of Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, GIZ supports
the Government of Liberia in the health sector through a project focusing on the improvement of
surveillance and response system for diseases, especially those with epidemic potential in the partner
counties in south east Liberia.
For GIZ Health Project – Health System Strengthening and Epidemic Prevention (HSSEP)
project we seek applications from suitable national candidates for
Position: Driver
Location: Harper, with in-country travel
Contract Period: Subject to agreement of the commissioner, this post is available up to August 2021
with an option of extension.
Responsibilities
The driver reports to the Head of Administration and Finance. The driver is responsible for
▪ Safely and responsibly performing all official travel using official vehicles
▪ Regularly servicing and looking after official vehicles
▪ Running official errands and assisting with other office work
▪ Maintaining vehicle
Tasks
▪ Providing safe passenger transport in an official car project staff, visitors and partners
▪ Regularly cleaning and servicing the vehicles (fuelling; checking oil, water, brakes and brake liquid,
tire pressure, battery levels and the entire vehicle; reporting need for service and carrying out
minor repairs
▪ Keeping vehicle documents and vehicle log, and recording monthly maintenance
▪ Immediately reporting all accidents, damage, loss or theft
▪ Keeping abreast of road conditions (including through radio news)
▪ Running errands for the project (delivering letters, paying bills, buying small quantities of office
supplies)
▪ Helping with transporting goods and assisting colleagues as needed, e.g. with setting-up
equipment during workshops, photocopying and filing; performing other duties at the request of
management
Required qualifications, competences and experience
Qualifications
▪ primary school education
▪ Valid Liberian driver’s licence
Professional experience
▪ At least 3 years’ experience as a driver with references, preferably in Southeast Liberia
Other knowledge, additional competences
▪ No major accidents in the past 3 years
▪ Experience in driving up-country in difficult road conditions
▪ Familiarity with in country travels and familiarity with South-East Liberia is an asset
▪ Good eyesight, proven by recent eye examination
▪ Good knowledge of English language and good interpersonal communication skills
▪ Ability to read maps and to communicate via mobile phone
▪ Knowledge of basic vehicle mechanics and maintenance
▪ High level of integrity, diligence, punctuality, appropriate appearance and friendly manner with
passengers
▪ Previous experience with GIZ or German cooperation is advantage
Note: The post will be based in Harper. The Project director and most of the team working for HSSEP are
based in Monrovia. Team members/project director will undertake frequent travels to Harper and the south
east of Liberia. There is a project office in Harper that will be used by the candidate we are herewith looking
