Job Title: Education Support Officer-Adult Literacy (x1)

Location: Based in Rivercess County. Regular travel to and within 15 Adult Literacy implementing communities in Rivercess County.

Reporting To: Programme Manager-Integrated Programme – LIFE

Contract duration: 6 months

Job Purpose:

The Education Support Officer will work under the overall supervision of the LIFE programme Manager. S/he will be mainly

responsible for supporting the Education Officer in coordinating, facilitating and monitoring implementation of outcome four of the

multisector program through development of weekly plans and reports, community mobilization, needs analysis, networking with

other stakeholders and promoting community participation in program cycle management

Responsibilities:

Community Empowerment & Training:

  • Support the Education Officer in the preparation of weekly and monthly activity plans and reports.
  • Work with the Education Officer in organizing the community literacy classes, workshops and community learning events.
  • Monitor and provide daily guidance to community literacy facilitators to effectively facilitate the adult literacy curriculum to the learners
  • Support the mobilisation of Community Development Management Committee (CDMCs) groups to initiate adult literacy development initiatives

and support the conduct of their monthly meetings.

  • Support the Education Officer to train and coach Adult Literacy facilitators including working closely CDMC groups.
  • Work with the Education Officer for the graduation of level 1 learners after completion of the curriculum and support a smooth transition

planning for level 2 learners

Network & Linkage

  • Support the Education Officer to engage with appropriate community education stakeholders for coordination purpose
  • Promote the linkage of Adult Learning facilitators to other relevant stakeholders.

Technical Support and Facilitation

  • Visit learning centres regularly to monitor attendance and learning outcomes.
  • Submit to Education Project Officer list of challenges affecting smooth implementation and support the revision of project implementation

strategies where applicable.

  • Promote awareness and adherence/compliance with Concern Worldwide’s Code of Conduct & Associated Policies (including Programme

Participant Protection, Child & vulnerable adult Safeguarding, Anti-Trafficking policies), Conflict of Interest Policy, Anti-Fraud Policy, and

Modern Slavery Transparency Statement.

  • Promote participation of Program Participants in program cycle management in line with Concern Worldwide’s commitments under the Core

Humanitarian Standard (CHS) and Do No Harm principles and ensure high ethical standards throughout programme implementation.

Planning and Reporting

  • Support the Education Officer to prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly plans and reports on her/his activities and submit to her/his supervisor.
  • Lead the collection of facilitators’ monthly report and other basic information from the community, document local practices that are best performing

to the local conditions.

  • Participate in weekly project planning meetings
  • Support the education Officer in consolidating weekly and monthly reports.
  • Develop project case/success stories

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all work done in the field is carried out in a manner that is respectful and sensitive to local culture, community needs and gender

equality.

  • Adhere fully to the commitments and rules of Concern’s Code of Conduct and associated policies including the respect of confidentiality.
  • Report to the appropriate manager all violations of the Code of Conduct and associated policies.
  • To promote a positive organisational culture and staff wellbeing through best HR practices.
  • Responsible for upholding and promoting Concern’s values, demonstrating leadership on workplace equality, diversity and inclusion, and role modelling a

positive safeguarding ethos.

  • Actively participate in any emergency response as and when required.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the Green Concern Liberia strategy

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Diploma or equivalent qualification in Education.
  • Minimum of 1 years of relevant work experience such as teaching or field experience in community-based education projects in an NGO working

directly with communities.

  • Strong planning, analysis and writing skills.
  • Strong experience working with children, youth, and local communities.
  • Knowledge of principles and practice of child-centred and accelerated education.
  • Experience in training delivery and facilitation.
  • Good verbal communication skills in local languages and working knowledge of English.
  • Ability to clearly convey concepts to populations with limited numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Excellent training and mentoring skills with ability to work as part of a team with diverse backgrounds.
    • Willingness to travel frequently to field sites.

    Desirable:

    • Experience engaging with county level Education authorities.
    • Experience working in education programs and in rural settings.
    • Previous experience working with NGOs a plus.
