Job Title: Environmental Assistant (x1)

Location: Monrovia

Reporting To: System Director

Responsible For: N/A

Contract duration: Fixed Term

Job Purpose: To Assist the Systems Director in implementing Concern’s Global Environmental Strategy and Concern Liberia’s 5 year Country Strategy (Goal 4)

Specific Responsibilities: Operational Change

Support in the implementation of the Concern 2019 Global Environmental policy & Strategy at country level; Conduct a carbon audit on the organisations 2021 operations and support in the development and roll-out of a strategy to reduce Concern Liberia’s CO2 emissions; assess environmentally sound waste streams available in Monrovia and at field office level that Concern could access, develop and implement a waste management strategy; review current procurement procedures and support the SD in developing context-specific green procurement policy guided by best practice in the sector; Review current fleet management procedures and support the SD in the development of green fleet management strategy guided by best practice, Attend Global and National Environmental working groups including environmentally-focused Operational working groups and webinars.

Behavioural Change

Support in the development of material and conduct trainings and awareness-raising sessions for Concern staff and partners on environmental issues, such as conserving the natural environment, climate change, ensuring to bring out a gender perspective; promote a cultural change within Concern Liberia that focuses on Concern staff’s awareness of climate change, environmental issues and promotes greener practices.

Research & Reporting

Submit a monthly Environmental report providing an update on projects and trainings implemented and challenges faced; conduct research and prepare guiding documents that will support both systems and programmes in implementing Concerns Liberia’s 5 year Country Strategy (Goal 4) and Concerns Global Environmental Strategy.

Experience & Qualification:

3rd level graduate with a degree in a relevant field

Computer literate

Ability to work alone and coordinate across departments

Keen attention to detail.

Excellent communication skills who is able to interact with all levels of staff.

Experience in research and report writing

Ability to influence change
