Position Summary
We are inviting expressions of interest from experienced and motivated professionals for the key leadership role of Maintenance Manager for a new gold mining venture in Liberia. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a dynamic start-up operation and play a pivotal role in shaping the success of a promising greenfield gold project.

 

We are seeking a highly experienced Maintenance Manager to lead the setup and operation of maintenance functions at a greenfield mining site, with a specific focus on heavy mining equipment. This role involves developing and implementing all maintenance processes, procedures, and SHS standards, in line with international mining best practices.

Duties and Responsibilities / KPI’s
1. Greenfield Site Setup
1.1. Establish all maintenance-related systems, processes, and infrastructure for a new mining site.
1.2. Design and implement SHS (Safety, Health & Sustainability) procedures in alignment with international standards.
1.3. Ensure the site setup complies with globally recognized mining maintenance practices.2. Maintenance Planning and Scheduling
2.1. Develop and manage comprehensive preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance plans.
2.2. Coordinate daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance schedules to minimize equipment downtime.
2.3. Maintain CMMS data integrity and ensure timely closure of work orders.

3. Heavy Equipment Maintenance Management
3.1. Oversee diagnostics, repair, and servicing of all mobile heavy mining equipment.
3.2. Ensure equipment meets or exceeds targeted availability and reliability levels.
3.3. Implement condition monitoring, root cause analysis, and reliability improvement strategies.

4. Team Leadership and Development
4.1. Recruit, train, and lead a team of skilled maintenance technicians and supervisors.
4.2. Set individual and team performance expectations aligned with departmental goals.
4.3. Promote a culture of accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.

5. Roster and Handover Management
5.1. Work on a FIFO 4/4 roster, back-to-back with another Maintenance Manager.
5.2. Conduct structured handovers with detailed reporting and action plans to ensure operational continuity.

6. Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
6.1. Ensure all maintenance work is performed in compliance with SHS policies and legal standards.
6.2. Lead and document safety audits, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
6.3. Promote a zero-harm culture across all maintenance activities.

7. Cost and Resource Management
7.1. Manage the department’s operational and capital budgets, ensuring cost control and value for money.
7.2. Oversee parts inventory levels, procurement planning, and supplier relationships.
7.3. Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or equipment performance.

8. Reporting and Stakeholder Communication
8.1. Generate and deliver regular reports on equipment KPIs, maintenance performance, and risk areas.
8.2. Collaborate with operations, planning, and supply chain departments for integrated site performance.

Qualifications / Experience / Technical Knowledge
Qualifications

These refer to formal education and certifications required for the role.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related technical field.
  • Relevant certifications in maintenance management, safety, or reliability engineering (e.g., CMMS training, Six Sigma, ISO standards).
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written); additional languages relevant to the site location are a plus.

Experience

This covers the candidate’s work history and practical exposure.

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in heavy mining equipment maintenance, with at least 5 years in a senior or managerial role.
  • Proven track record in greenfield project setup, including development of maintenance systems and SHS frameworks.
  • Prior expatriate experience in international or remote mining operations is essential.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing multicultural teams on FIFO rosters, including handover systems and operational continuity.
  • Experience managing maintenance budgets, KPIs, and contractor/vendor relationships.

Working Conditions
· The role operates on a FIFO (Fly-In Fly-Out) 4/4 roster, meaning 4 weeks on-site followed by 4 weeks off-site.

· The position is based at a remote greenfield mining site with rugged terrain and variable weather conditions.
