Job Title: Family Business Officer
Location: Montserrado, Margibi, Maryland

Contract Type: Full-Time, 12 months fixed term
BACKGROUND
Street Child International Liberia is implementing a four-year Education For Every Child Today (EFECT) project nationwide. This project, which started in 2022 will enrol and retain 13,500 highly vulnerable primary school age children into education.
The project uses a child-centred approach and a combination of interventions to confront compounded challenges. A strategic combination of social, economic, infrastructural, and instructional support will be utilised to achieve increased access and retention in primary education for 13,500 vulnerable children in Liberia.
Job functions Summary:
The Family Business Officer will work within urban and peri-urban communities around Liberia to improve access to education for thousands of children. This position will be roving across multiple wards/communities in urban centres to increase their awareness, interest, and investment in education.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with the identification of caregivers to take part in the project.
- Assist families to draw up achievable business plans.
- Assess the suitability of all business grants plans and follow up where appropriate with the Project Manager.
- Help families manage their family business grants,and 20 week saving scheme.
- Work closely with the Finance department to deposit savings in to bank account.
- Review the coaching and mentoring needs of beneficiaries and design non-grant support to meet those needs.
- Conduct appropriate business coaching and mentoring for families.
- Undertake follow-up visits and monitor project beneficiaries, in order to assess impact of the grant on the livelihood of the family – especially children.
- Write weekly reports and updates for internal purposes
- Collect and report relevant data on beneficiaries
- Administer structured questionnaires accurately and ethically, ensuring informed consent and confidentiality of respondents.
- Ensure quality, accuracy, and completeness of collected data and report any challenges to the supervisor promptly.
- Assist the team to develop mitigation techniques in reducing the project’s exposure to risks of implementing a grants scheme for families
- Work with other Business Officers to develop best practices for the monitoring and evaluation of the family business scheme.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
EDUCATION AND JOB-RELATED SKILLS
- Effective communication skills in local languages and strong negotiation and diplomacy skills.
- Effective communication skills in English writing and verbal skills, sensitive to cultural dynamics
- Skilled in using data collection tools such as Commcare or Kobo collect toolbox
- Can work with minimal supervision and demonstrate initiative
- Ability to build strong working relationships in communities and influence positive change.
- Collect and document project stories for sharing, learning and advocacy.
- The ideal candidate should possess at least a degree in social work, or have significant experience working in a similar capacity
RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of three years’ experience in implementing cash grants/financial inclusion projects or working in a similar capacity
- Experience in working in urban communities
- Motorbike riding skills and valid license
- Experience in community mobilization initiatives
- Demonstrable working knowledge of supporting and working families
- Experience working with children, caregivers, and other vulnerable groups
- Knowledgeable about safeguarding and child protection policies.
