ABOUT STREET:

Street Child started working in Liberia in 2013, helping street children in the capital
of Monrovia. When Liberia was hit with the Ebola crisis, we expanded our work to
support the thousands of children impacted by Ebola to go to school. We believe in
supporting children in every aspect of their school life: school environment,
teachers, parents, the wider community and the barriers to education they face.
Street Child is a principal provider and top performer of the Liberian Education
Advancement Partnership (LEAP), a flagship public-private partnership run by the
Liberian Government’s Ministry of Education, outsourcing the administration and
management of public schools to private providers in an ambitious effort to enhance
learning gains.
Street Child is now working in four regions in Liberia: Montserrado, Margibi, Cape
Mount and Maryland, where our three main areas of focus are;
 Education
 Child protection, and
 livelihoods.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
JOB TITLE: FAMILY BUSINESS OFFICER(S

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: Annual (renewable based on satisfactory performance and funding)

ORGANIZATION PROFILE AND SUMMARY OF THE JOB:

Street Child of Liberia (SCoL) – through its main partner Street Child UK – is
implementing a four-year Education For Every Child Today (EFECT) project
nationwide. This project will target enrolling and retaining 13,500 highly vulnerable
primary school age children into education.
The project uses a child-centered approach and a combination of interventions to
confront compounded challenges. A strategic combination of social, economic,
infrastructural, and instructional support will be utilized to achieve increased access
and retention in primary education for 13,500 vulnerable children in Liberia.

OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:

The Family Business Officers (FBOs) will be responsible to collect savings and
conduct regular mentoring and coaching sessions for caregivers. The successful
candidate (s) will be roving across multiple communities and will work directly with
caregivers to support income earning and encourage of Out-of School Children
(OOSC) retention.

REPORTING TO: Head of Family Business for Education Lead
RESPONSIBLE FOR: None
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Mobilize and sensitize local communities on street Child of Liberia’s program
goal and objectives covering the Family Business Education grant process and activities.
 Support caregiver/Families in developing their business plans
 Collaborate with Street child street workers to identify, recruit and train
potential grantees
 Support the Head of FBS to develop effective monitoring and assessment
tools for the program
 Maintain excellent records and case files; responsible for accurate and up to
date record keeping
 Deliver motivational and informative regular weekly business management
coaching to grantees
 Participate in the disbursement of grants to caregivers
 Deliver Collection and accurate recording of family savings and submit all
savings to the Head of Family Business Scheme.
 Conduct mid grants as well as post grant evaluation for grantees as may be
required
 Identify and report gaps in service and beneficiaries training needs or other
issues affecting the FBS to the Head of FBS
 Work closely and effectively with Street Work social workers to ensure
psychosocial and educational needs of children are met
 Submit weekly Family Business for Education field activities report
 Carry out any other duties as delegated/requested in the interest of the project

ABOUT YOU: We are looking for people with the right competencies and skills for the role, and
who demonstrate personal qualities consistent with Street Child Values.
QUALIFICATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential:

 Some under graduate studies , with a minimum of two years’ progressive
experience in a related field;
 Proven experience in identifying vulnerability categories and cases
 Proven experience of setting up business plans and coaching
 Minimum of two years’ experience in an International organization,
governmental or local organizations.
 Ability to build relationships with a variety of stakeholders including but not
limited to government officials, international funders, caregivers and vulnerable children
 Ability to work as part of a team to support the team in communities that may not be your usual place of work
 Good knowledge on the rights of children and women, disability including the
challenges and opportunities in Liberia
 A minimum of three years’ experience in implementing livelihoods or saving schemes projects or working in a similar capacity
 Experience in working in slums communities
 Motorbike riding skills and/or willing to ride
 Experience in community mobilization, with demonstrable working knowledge
of supporting and working with communities and vulnerable caregivers
 Experience working with children, caregivers, and other vulnerable groups
 Knowledgeable about safeguarding and child protection related policies

 Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills;
 Availability to contribute to the substantive development and increased capacity
of the team and willingness to share expertise;
 Ability to prepare briefing notes, presentations and other knowledge products;
 Ability to communicate technical concepts among many different stakeholders –
government, donors, civil society organizations and to understand the language
of sectorial policy makers
 Gender sensitivity and knowledge to apply a gender equality approach
 Ability to positively influence decision makers.
