Job Title: Field Assistant-Adult Literacy Facilitator (x1)

Location: Grand Bassa County

Reporting To: Project Supervisor

Responsible For: N/A

Contract duration: Fixed Term

Job Purpose: To facilitate literacy and numeracy capability/skills in the communities with a focus on women in the assigned district of Grand Bassa County.

Specific Responsibilities: Community Empowerment & Training

Provides support in identification of training needs of target communities; creates awareness and facilitates full community participation in the process of needs/solution identification through appropriate community participatory processes; organizes and facilitates Information Education and Communication (IEC) sessions with community members participating in Concern development initiatives; liaises with community leaders, Community Saving and Loans Association (CSLA) members, and Mother Group members to stimulate development and numeracy skills for women; teaching adults how to read and write by creating innovative lesson plans that fit their needs; learning and utilizing the accepted curricula that reflect the cultural, educational, and language background of adult learners; practicing various facilitation methods like tactile, audio, and visual learning; maintaining weekly, quarterly, and yearly reports of beneficiaries/ groups’ progress; use of interactive and participatory methods to enhance absorption of the approach used.

Network and Linkage

Maintains good relationship with governmental, non-governmental, and locally established institutions in the key sectors for the smooth implementation of programs; develop a partnership with grass-root level stakeholders for the sustainability of programs; Liaise and collaborate with other community mobilizers in other development sectors within Concern Worldwide.

Technical Support and Facilitation

Build capacity and provides technical assistance to project staff to promote community participation and ownership of adult literacy initiatives; Educate and encourage communities to enrol all school-age children in school by; Supporting and facilitating back to school campaigns in target communities; Facilitate community meetings with mothers; Conduct training for community leaders/focal persons on community dialogue/ conversation methodologies to address health/nutrition and GBV issues; Support the role out of P4, and CRM in the assigned district; Expert teaching/ Facilitation abilities that will help beneficiaries to achieve their goals; Perfect verbal and writing skills that will effectively convey the right information or message; Ability to boost beneficiaries’ confidence; Adapting new techniques and training methods of facilitating complicated or difficult things, so that the beneficiaries understand them perfectly; Expert monitoring skills that will help to be aware of beneficiaries’ performance and take proper improvement measures to correct it; Effective changing of communication skills according to the audience you are referring to; Knowledge of rolling out REFLECT methodology (mother manual)

Planning and Reporting

Prepares weekly, monthly and quarterly plans and reports on her/his activities and submit to her/his supervisor; Collects basic information from the community, document local practices that are best performing to the local conditions; Ensure compliance with all donor requirements and regulations

Additional Responsibilities:

Ensure that all work done in the field is carried out in a manner that is respectful and sensitive to local culture, community needs and gender equality; To follow, at all times, policies and guidelines set down by Concern; Perform other duties assigned by the line manager

Experience & Qualification:

Technical diploma in education or any other related field.

At least 2 years experience of working with communities

Experience with community mobilization.

Good written and verbal communication skills in English

Ability to motivate communities and able to work under pressure

Basic computer skills (Word, Excel) are a must.

Ability to ride a motorcycle or willing to learn
