Job Title: Field Assistant – Gender (WE ARE ONE) (x1)

Job Purpose: This is a field-based position that requires collaborating and working very closely with communities, the local leaders, other community-based health workers or groups, formal and informal structures, district authorities and local partners where applicable. Overall, the staff will be responsible for identifying communities, conducting community orientation about the programmes, sensitization, mobilization, education, conducting training on the Engaging Men and Boys approach called ‘We are One’ (WAO) to reduce gender and inequality in targeted communities through the Gender Transformative continuum sessions (14 in total). The staff will also be rolling out to Change makers, who will be positive role models and use the knowledge, understanding and skills gained to disseminate WAO messages to encourage community members to take appropriate and necessary actions to prevent violence against women, girls and children in their families and communities. Staff will use participatory discussion, practice facilitation skills and group discussion sessions in conducting Change Maker training. In addition, the staff will perform direct on-site coaching of individuals and groups of beneficiaries to ensure effective implementation and active participation in, ownership and sustainability of programme activities.

Responsibilities: Prepare weekly and monthly activity plans, identifying and timely requesting the resources required for effective implementation of program activities; mobilize and organize communities, keeping into consideration contextual social problems, challenges, and opportunities and with relevant local stakeholders to identify correct target groups in line with Concern’s criteria support and encourage group’s dynamics, including establishing WAO members and work with them to identify 2 Changemakers in the targeted communities; liaise with community leaders and community-based health workers and/or volunteers and other relevant gender-related actors at the community and district levels; create a linkage across CWW beneficiary groups (Mother Groups, CSLAs, WASH committees, Farmers groups) to ensure that gender messaging is adequately mainstreamed in all their activities. In collaboration with the local government authorities, and local implementing partners where applicable, the Field Assistant will plan, organize and facilitate required training and/or learning sessions for the

empowerment of participants at all levels, with the support of other members of the program team when relevant; participate in research studies, analysis or surveys, assessments particularly relating to gender behaviours for improved health, hygiene, and nutrition and supports the development of effective strategies to increase the practice of the behavior in order to achieve intended program outcomes; ccollaborate with and support Systems/logistics to ensure successful, transparent and accountable distribution of related IEC and visibility materials and other needed inputs as implied in the program; explore ways to promote sustainable behavioral change as it relates to gender in line with the program objectives

Mainstreaming Gender, HIV/AIDs, and other cross-cutting issues:

Support contextual analysis of gender, HIV/AIDs and environmental issues, including hygiene and sanitation promotion, and ensure they are adequately mainstreamed in all activities.

Undertake activities in line with the programme objectives, to promote sustainable behavioural change, as relates to gender and environmental practices that inhibit equitable and sustainable development of the communities.

Participatory Monitoring and Learning:

Ensure that programme participants, and their local structures actively participate in, and undertake monitoring activities in order to address real local needs. Ensure that best practices and success stories are documented and shared; undertake routine monitoring of programme inputs, activities and outputs to facilitate identification of implementation gaps and keep programme fit for purpose.

Reporting and Accountability:

Prepare field activity reports and submit to the project supervisor in a timely manner; Ensure all work done with communities is carried out in a manner that is respectful and sensitive to local culture, community needs and gender equality; Ensure that programme participants and stakeholders have clear information about the programme activities as appropriate and relevant to them; Keep and maintain up-to-date register of programme participants; Adhere to at all times to Concern’s policies, guidelines and standards; Be aware of, understand and comply with all of Concern’s Code of Conduct and Associated policies (P4, finance, logistics, HR, security management; Collect and timely report verbal complaints and feedback from individuals and communities, for ensuring adequate response; Contribute to ongoing security management and planning as necessary; Actively participate in any emergency response if called upon to do so; Undertake other related duties as may reasonably be assigned by the CD, PD, or line manager

Experience & Qualification:

Diploma from a recognized institution, with a bias in any of the programmatic areas (Nursing, Physician Assistant, Environmental Health, Public Health, and Sociology)

At least 2 years of practical experience in implementing a community-based donor-funded programme within Liberia with NGO(s) or government in rural areas.

Practical knowledge of health delivery, health promotion, and nutritional care, is essential.

The ability to ride a motorcycle in remote and rough terrains, or the willingness to learn.
