Safeguarding Job Responsibilities
∙ Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment at the community level
∙ Read, understand, practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action, ○ Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do the same.
PURPOSE:
The Field Assistants (FAs) will organize and lead field level activities and provide dedicated training and technical support to farmer groups. The FAs will primarily select and supervise respective community service providers (CSPs), selection of market actors including agro-entrepreneurs, linking of farmers groups to traders, processors etc. The Field Assistants report to the Regional Capacity Building Coordinator.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Primary selection of lead farmers, general farmers for crops and poultry/livestock production, agro-entrepreneurs, traders, processors and community service providers (CSPs). ∙ Identify the local cropping patterns from the selected areas. |
2. Facilitate farmers training and monthly producer group meetings at community level. ∙ Establish demo/farmer’s-field plots for dissemination of climate smart agriculture and good agricultural practices to enhance farm yields and incomes for local farmers. |
3. Organize different programs (i.e., meeting, workshop, training, campaigns, radio promo, talk show, and cooking demonstrations) as per instruction of supervisor/management. ∙ Tracking down crops/livestock production and facilitate bulk marketing through farming as a business approach. |
4. Monitoring field visits of lead and general farmers and providing them advisory services. ∙ Coordinate with the local government, NGOS and other development partners. Identify the proper agro inputs with brand name, variety and price. |
5. Maintain official documents like registers, files properly and always check the store and keep stock balance up to date. |
6. Supervise input distribution by CSPs and make requisition as and when required. ∙ prepare a weekly report and send it to the Regional Capacity Building Coordinators. ∙ Carry out any other duties assigned by the supervisor/management. |
7. BRAC Safeguarding: Commit to implement the BRAC Safeguarding policy and will work to: a. Establish a safeguarding culture across all levels of the Programme by implementing the safeguarding policy. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment. b. Be responsible for ensuring team members are appropriately trained, and supported and have access to resources regarding issues that are identified and actioned by the safeguarding policy and procedure. Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, and encourage others to do so. |
1. EXPERIENCE (Including sector/industry): |
∙ Diploma/Associate degree in general agriculture or relevant subject. ∙ 3-5 years’ experience in climate smart agriculture, nutrition sensitive agriculture, poultry/livestock program implementation, market linkage, VSLA preferably in an NGO ∙ Proven experience in identifying agricultural & poultry/livestock production and marketing related problems for small scale farmers, conducting different events and market surveys. ∙ Proven experience in working with partner NGOs and in establishing effective linkages with different input/ service providers, the private sector actors and GO/ NGO officials. ∙ Proven experience in training facilitation skills, communication skills with different stakeholders, report writing skills etc. ∙ Knowledge and experience in working with USAID funded projects is preferred. |
2. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES: |
Knowledge ∙ Facilitate technical support to smallholder farmers, community service providers and other value chain actors. ∙ Significant exposure to agriculture, poultry/livestock, social business and development programs in Liberia. ∙ Proven track record of working in farmer organizations/ cooperatives and challenging field locations (both rural and urban). ∙ Computer skills: Microsoft office word, excel etc. ∙ Proven ability to perform under pressure and prioritize with multiple competing demands. ∙ Familiarity with BRAC’s work and/or working experience on livelihood and food security programs.
