With funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through Welthungerhilfe (WHH) Liberia, Serving Humanity for Empowerment and Development (SHED) and BASA Development Initiatives (BDI) are jointly implementing a 36-month project titled “Advancing Youth Economic Inclusion through Skills Training and Green Jobs in Liberia.” SHED serves as the lead implementing organization. The project aims to advance the economic inclusion and resilience of young people, particularly young women, in Bong, Margibi, Grand Cape Mount, and Nimba Counties by equipping them with market-relevant green skills and creating pathways to decent employment, sustainable entrepreneurship, and climate-resilient livelihoods.

SHED is a Liberian organization established as a national office following FCA’s ten (10) years of work in Liberia. 1. JOB/POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY

The Field Officer – Climate-Smart Agriculture will lead implementation of climate-smart agriculture, sustainable agribusiness, value addition, and related green economic activities in the target counties. The position will work directly with young people, particularly young women, to strengthen their technical, entrepreneurial, and market-oriented capacities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead implementation of project climate-smart agriculture activities in assigned locations.
• Mobilize and support young people, particularly young women, to participate in CSA and green agribusiness activities.
• Facilitate practical training on climate-smart agricultural practices and technologies.
• Support demonstration plots and practical learning sites.
• Promote sustainable soil, water, crop, and natural resource management practices.
• Support youth in crop production, processing, value addition, agribusiness, and market development.
• Support identification and development of viable youth-led agricultural GEIs.
• Provide technical and business mentoring to supported youth enterprises.
• Support youth with business planning, production planning, costing, record keeping, and market assessment.
• Facilitate access to quality inputs, technologies, equipment, technical services, and market information.
• Establish linkages between youth enterprises and buyers, processors, suppliers, financial institutions, and other market actors.
• Monitor adoption of climate-smart practices and enterprise performance.
• Work closely with the MEAL Officer to collect and verify project data.
• Ensure participation of women, persons with disabilities, and marginalized youth.
• Document innovations, good practices, challenges, and lessons learned.
• Prepare regular field reports and contribute to project reporting.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agricultural Economics, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related discipline.
• Additional training in climate-smart agriculture, agribusiness, value addition, or sustainable agriculture is an advantage.
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience in agriculture, climate-smart agriculture, livelihoods, agribusiness, or related programming.
• Demonstrated experience providing technical support and training to farmers or youth.
• Experience supporting agricultural enterprises, value chains, market linkages, and value addition.
• Experience integrating gender and social inclusion into agricultural programming is desirable.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

• Strong technical knowledge of climate-smart agriculture.
• Practical knowledge of agricultural value chains and agribusiness.
• Strong training, facilitation, and mentoring skills.
• Good understanding of climate risks affecting agriculture in Liberia.
• Strong community mobilization and relationship-building skills.
• Good market analysis and business development skills.
• Strong report-writing and documentation skills.
• Commitment to youth empowerment, women’s economic participation, and environmental sustainability.
