Job Purpose: This is a field-based position that requires collaborating and working very closely with communities, the local Health facilities, Community Health Assistants and other community based health workers, community formal and informal structures, government authorities, private sector and local partners where applicable. Overall, the staff will be responsible for community orientation about the programmes, sensitization, mobilization, education, conducting training and/or learning sessions and coaching of individuals and groups of beneficiaries to ensure effective implementation and active participation in, ownership and sustainability of programme activities. Specifically, as an extension worker, the Field officer will be responsible for grass root implementation of the programme in selected communities assigned to him or her within District #1, Grand Bassa County.

Responsibilities: Prepare weekly and monthly activity plans, identifying and timely requesting the resources required for effective implementation of programme activities. Mobilise and organize communities, keeping into consideration contextual social problems, challenges and opportunities, identified through participatory research and demonstrations. Support and encourage group’s dynamics, including establishing mothers groups, and work with them to establish functional leadership structures. Liaise with community based health workers and/or volunteers and other relevant health/nutrition actors at the community and district levels to support the screening and referral of noticeable malnutrition cases to the nearest existing health facilities. Create a linkage between the Mother Groups and community-based health workers and/or volunteers to improve referral mechanisms for emergency medical cases including malnutrition and the notifiable communicable diseases. Work with the communities and relevant local stakeholders to identify correct target groups in line with Concern’s global policies, and ensure their active participation in all stages of the programme cycle management and participatory learning. Support and complement the FIM component of the program in assisting programme participants and their communities to identify and mobilize local resources and skills required for attainment of sustainable agriculture, with specific focus on increasing availability, accessibility, and utilization of higher nutritional value products from kitchen garden and other agricultural produce. In collaboration with the local government authorities, and local implementing partners where applicable, the Field Assistant will plan, organize and facilitate required trainings and/or learning sessions for the empowerment of participants at all levels, with the support of other members from the programme team when relevant. Participate in research studies, analysis or surveys, particularly relating to behaviors for improved health, hygiene and nutrition and supports the development of effective strategies to increase the practice of the behaviour in order to achieve intended program outcomes. Collaborate with and support Systems/logistics to ensure successful, transparent and accountable procurement and distribution of cooking demo tools, kitchen tools and needed inputs as implied in the program.

Experience & Qualification:

A minimum of Diploma from a recognized institution, with a bias in any of the programmatic areas (Nursing, Physician Assistant, Environmental Health, Public Health and Sociology)

A first University degree in the relevant fields is preferred.

At least 2 years of practical experience in implementing a community based donor-funded programmes within Liberia with NGO(s) or government in rural areas.

Practical knowledge of health delivery, health promotion and nutritional care, is essential.

The ability to ride a motorcycle in remote and rough terrains, or the willingness to learn.
