With funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through Welthungerhilfe (WHH) Liberia, Serving Humanity for Empowerment and Development (SHED) and BASA Development Initiatives (BDI) are jointly implementing a 36-month project titled “Advancing Youth Economic Inclusion through Skills Training and Green Jobs in Liberia.” SHED serves as the lead implementing organization. The project aims to advance the economic inclusion and resilience of young people, particularly young women, in Bong, Margibi, Grand Cape Mount, and Nimba Counties by equipping them with market-relevant green skills and creating pathways to decent employment, sustainable entrepreneurship, and climate-resilient livelihoods.

JOB/POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY

The Field Officer – Renewable Energy will lead implementation of renewable energy, clean cooking, and clean lighting interventions. The position will support youth—particularly young women—to develop technical and entrepreneurial capacities in renewable energy and establish sustainable systems for production, distribution, installation, maintenance, and after-sales services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead implementation of renewable energy and clean technology activities in assigned locations.
• Mobilize youth, particularly young women, for renewable energy skills and enterprise opportunities.
• Support achievement of the target of 1,300 households adopting energy-efficient cookstoves and clean lighting solutions.
• Facilitate technical training on installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and after-sales services.
• Support youth-led production, distribution, installation, maintenance, and servicing systems.
• Conduct community awareness on clean cooking, clean lighting, energy efficiency, and environmental benefits.
• Identify viable renewable energy business opportunities and support youth in developing business models.
• Establish linkages with technology suppliers, renewable energy companies, distributors, employers, and other private-sector actors.
• Support youth enterprises with business planning, costing, pricing, inventory management, customer service, and record keeping.
• Monitor installation, functionality, utilization, maintenance, and customer satisfaction.
• Support establishment of appropriate warranty and after-sales service mechanisms.
• Collect user feedback and identify technical and operational challenges.
• Support development and strengthening of renewable energy GEIs.
• Ensure women’s participation in renewable energy training and enterprise opportunities.
• Work with MEAL and GEDSI staff to monitor results and inclusion.
• Document innovations, lessons learned, and success stories.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Renewable Energy, Agriculture Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Environmental Science, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
• Relevant technical certification in renewable energy, solar energy, clean cooking, or energy systems is an advantage.
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in renewable energy, solar energy, clean cooking, energy efficiency, or related fields.
• Demonstrated practical experience with renewable energy technologies and systems.
• Experience in training, technical assistance, installation, maintenance, or after-sales services.
• Experience supporting youth employment or entrepreneurship is desirable.
• Experience working with private-sector renewable energy companies, suppliers, distributors, or community organizations is an advantage.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

• Strong technical knowledge of renewable energy and clean energy technologies.
• Practical knowledge of solar energy, clean lighting, clean cooking, or related technologies.
• Strong training and coaching skills.
• Good understanding of renewable energy markets and business models.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Good communication and community engagement skills.
• Ability to translate technical concepts into practical training.
• Strong documentation and reporting skills.
• Commitment to environmental sustainability, gender equality, and youth empowerment.
