The program will engage young women from diverse academic and socio-economic backgrounds, offering them mentorship, skill development, and practical experience. Interns will contribute to Mercy Corps’ ongoing projects, gaining hands-on experience while building a strong foundation for their future careers.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the Finance Manager, the Finance Intern handles various reconciliations at the field, systematically follows all financial documentation for payment procession and maintains the appropriate finance records for the work performed.

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Skills and Knowledge to be Acquired By the end of the internship, the intern will:
•Gain a clear understanding of financial processes.
•Understand the basics of donor regulations and Mercy Corps’ procedures.
•Become familiar with bookkeeping practices.
•Learn and apply the finance archiving system.
•Provide financial support to non-finance team members.
•Demonstrate a solid understanding of basic accounting skills.

INTERN’S RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are seeking a motivated Finance Intern to support our finance team with the following tasks:
1. Follow Mercy Corps’ policies, procedures, and documentation standards.
2. Maintain organized records of program activities and financial documents.
3. Track and follow up on outstanding payments and obligations.
4. Conduct weekly cash counts and ensure payment vouchers are properly matched and filed.
5 . Process authorized bank payments and receipts.
6 . Ensure vendor invoices are tracked and paid on time.
7 . Maintain and track staff advances, ensuring timely clearance of all outstanding advances.
8. Review financial transactions for accuracy, proper coding, and complete documentation.
9 . Prepare and reconcile cash, bank, and advances reports weekly and monthly.
10. Ensure timely withholding and payment of taxes (income, GST, etc.).
11 . Keep financial documents well-organized, labeled, and stored for easy access.
12. Lead the reviewing and organizing of archived documents for compliance and retention.
13 .Adapt to new tasks and responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications:
•A minimum of bachelor’s degree in a Finance or accounting. First class degree is a plus.
•Excellent Communication skills
•A demonstrated ability to multitask and process information into action in a timely manner
•Ability to use the following Microsoft Productivity tools: Excel and Word
•Fluency in English Language.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
•The intern will be expected to work 40 hours a week
•The intern will be paid a monthly allowance of 200 USD
