Food Security and Livelihood Officers (3 positions 2 Montserrado, 1 Margibi)

Supervises: NA

Assignment:

Responsible for the establishment, maintenance and running of community based Village Savings and Loans Associations and all other associated activities among women and other vulnerable groups for empowerment in close collaboration with the community members and the BEHOL Project team.

Means:

General means: paper based

Diploma / Level of studies:

First degree in general agriculture and or related community agriculture background with at least 4 years’ experience in setting up VSLA among community members, working closely with community authorities, dwellers and health authorities especially in rural, hard to reach communities.

Required skills:

· Experienced in conducting training for community members, monitoring and supervising activities in communities

· Experienced in building capacity of others for sustainability

· Good knowledge of the set-up of VSLA

· Good knowledge of agriculture practices

· Ability to work autonomously

· Diplomacy and patience, especially for community dwellers, Community Health Assistants/ Volunteers (CHA, gCHVs and TTMs)

· High level of English (spoken and written), strong report writing ability

· Knowledge of local languages is an asset

· Flexibility for field work as the job requires overnight stay and travel to ‘hard to reach’ rural communities in the county

· Rigor at work, high motivation

· Ability to ride motorbike

Objective 1:

To promote increase household income generating ability for women and other vulnerable population.

Activities:

· Support the establishment and training of VSLA members in the project targeted communities as prescribed by the project mandate.

· Provide feedback to PM on monitoring visits and ensure written record of visits with action points

· Participate in planning and conducting meetings at communities, VSLA meetings, established groups meetings and strengthen linkages to the catchment health facilities

· Liaise with other project teams (LAPS, Action Against Hunger) and coordinate activities as necessary

Objective 2:

To provide timely information on the progress of activities implemented

Activities:

· Provide weekly updates and monthly reports of all activities conducted to the PM

· Identify possible problems and propose recommendations for solution in a timely manner

· Contribute to the monthly activity progress report writing
