Position Title: Gender and Social Inclusion Specialist (GESI)
Reports To: Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP)
Position Purpose:
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP), the Gender Equality & Social Inclusion Specialist will provide technical knowledge and strategic guidance to project team. He /She will maximize opportunities to engage social inclusion and gender equity through direct project activities. He/she will manage and support delivery of gender technical aspects of the intervention at the project level. He/ she will provide support to the Programs Coordinator in areas such as mobilization, monitoring and evaluation, timely reporting, project closure, project assessments, and internal information sharing.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead for LFSA sessions to peer educators, teachers and school intervention in project area
- Provide expert advice on gender equality and social inclusion to project teams, ensuring these principals are embedded in all aspects of project design and implementation
- Develop and implement strategies and activities that promote gender equality and social inclusion within projects
- Conduct training sessions and workshops for staff and stakeholders to raise awareness and build capacity on gender and social inclusion issues • Integrate GESI considerations in monitoring and evaluation plans, ensuring that data collection and analysis reflect gender and social inclusion outcomes • Assist in the development of policies and procedures that promote gender equality and social inclusion within the organization
- Work closely with government counterparts, community leaders, and other stakeholders to advocate for and implement GESI initiatives
- Conduct research and analysis to identify barriers to gender equality and social inclusion and develop strategies to address these barriers
- Provide technical inputs and mentoring support to implementing partners on concepts, approaches and modalities for addressing drivers of GBV. • Monitor to identify the problems and issues related to GBV and support partners in managing them.
- Work with partners and volunteers to develop firsthand knowledge of addressing issues of GBV by transforming social norms, promoting access to economic opportunities and justice services.
- Supports in liaison building with concerned authorities at municipalities and provincial levels for reinforcing gender responsive legal frameworks and practices for addressing issues of GBV.
- Identify and pursue innovative interventions and ways of working with counties in Liberia to addressing issues of GBV
Program Delivery
- Ensure project outcomes have quality results required by the Program. • Develop and implement project schedule within set budgets and scope. Provide a key implementation role, ensuring project management standards are followed and deadlines met.
- Prepare and implement monitoring plan to assure that implementing partners are implementing project interventions.
- Develop quarterly and annual reports on the thematic areas of gender, inclusion and protection; share them to implementation team.
- Manage program financial budgets and targets, providing accurate and timely information on expenditure
- He /she must be able to travel frequently in project areas
Coordination and lead
- Support Team leader to ensure strong coordination with stakeholders for smooth implementation of project activities
- Inspire enthusiasm, momentum and commitment for outcomes project will deliver on preventing GBV.
Stakeholder Management and Communications
- Build effective working relationships with project stakeholders, engaging them at each project implementation stage and ensure effective communications at all levels.
- Ensure organizational communications about project benefits, progress, and outcomes on timely manner. Anticipate project risks and issues, communicating them to stakeholders, taking action to resolve them.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in social science, gender or equivalent in development studies, political science or related fields
- A degree in Law will be an added qualification advantage.
- At least 3 years work experience in the sector of gender equality, social inclusion, GBV and safeguarding particularly working with women, children and youth in the vulnerable community.
- Good knowledge and understanding of gender equality, social inclusion, GBV issues and policies in Liberia.
- Experience of working with children, women and youth empowerment projects • Experience of facilitating training on gender, social inclusion and protection with key thematic expertise on GBV
- Skilled to provide inputs in preparation of training materials and reference documents
- Experience in report writing, workshop facilitation and organizations; • Strong familiarity with current theories and issues in gender, development studies and human rights;
- Strategic planning background would be an asset.
- Experience of networking with government line agencies and other development stakeholders
- Ability to analyzed information, evaluate options, and follow the strategic directions for influencing key stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively with people at all levels including regional, global colleagues, partners, consortiums, poor and marginalized communities and other stakeholders.
- Knowledge working with office software packages (Windows, Excel, Power Point, Word, Outlook, Internet).
- Experience working with an international NGO
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in English written and spoken;
- Knowledge of other native languages spoken in Liberia would be an asset. Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse:
