With funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through Welthungerhilfe (WHH) Liberia, Serving Humanity for Empowerment and Development (SHED) and BASA Development Initiatives (BDI) are jointly implementing a 36-month project titled “Advancing Youth Economic Inclusion through Skills Training and Green Jobs in Liberia.” SHED serves as the lead implementing organization. The project aims to advance the economic inclusion and resilience of young people, particularly young women, in Bong, Margibi, Grand Cape Mount, and Nimba Counties by equipping them with market-relevant green skills and creating pathways to decent employment, sustainable entrepreneurship, and climate-resilient livelihoods.

SHED is a Liberian organization established as a national office following FCA’s ten (10) years of work in Liberia. Position Title:Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Officer
Reports to:Project Manager
Submission: DeadlineOctober 05, 2026, No later than 5:00 PM
Duty Station:Any of the mentioned target county/counties, with travel to project communities and partner institutions
Duration:(Estimated 12 Months with possible extension

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Officer will provide technical leadership to ensure that gender equality, disability inclusion, and social inclusion are systematically integrated throughout project design, implementation, monitoring, learning, and decision-making. The position will focus particularly on removing barriers affecting young women, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the project’s GEDSI action plan.
  • Mainstream gender equality, disability inclusion, and social inclusion across project activities, budgets, indicators, and implementation plans.
  • Provide technical advice and capacity building to project staff and partners on GEDSI.
  • Identify and address barriers limiting young women’s access to skills training, employment, entrepreneurship, finance, markets, and technology.
  • Promote women’s participation in traditionally male-dominated green sectors, including renewable energy and technical trades.
  • Support inclusive recruitment and selection processes for training, apprenticeships, employment, and enterprise support.
  • Promote safe, accessible, and inclusive training and workplace environments.
  • Support reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities.
  • Work with training providers and employers to strengthen disability-inclusive practices.
  • Ensure project communications and engagement approaches are accessible and inclusive.
  • Support integration of safeguarding, protection, prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse, harassment, and discrimination into project implementation.
  • Work with the MEAL Officer to ensure GEDSI-sensitive indicators and disaggregated data are collected and analyzed.
  • Monitor participation and outcomes by sex, age, disability, and other relevant characteristics.
  • Identify GEDSI gaps and recommend corrective actions.
  • Facilitate GEDSI reflection and learning sessions.
  • Document good practices, lessons learned, case studies, and success stories related to women’s empowerment and inclusion.
  • Contribute to project reports and donor reporting on GEDSI results.

 

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Sociology, Human Rights, Social Work, or a related field.
  • A master’s degree or professional qualification in gender, social inclusion, disability studies, development, or a related field is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience in gender equality, disability inclusion, social inclusion, women’s economic empowerment, or related programming.
  • Demonstrated experience mainstreaming gender and inclusion into development projects.
  • Experience conducting gender and social inclusion assessments and developing action plans.
  • Experience working with women’s groups, youth, persons with disabilities, marginalized communities, and other vulnerable groups.
  • Experience working on livelihoods, employment, entrepreneurship, climate, agriculture, or green economy programmes is an advantage.
  • Experience with safeguarding, PSEA, protection, or prevention of gender-based discrimination is desirable.

  • Strong advocacy, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • High level of professionalism, confidentiality, cultural sensitivity, and respect for diversity.
