TITLE: Gender, Safeguarding, and Social Inclusion Officer: Volunteers for Sustainable Development in Africa
LOCATION: Head Office in Monrovia, with travel in rural areas where VOSIEDA has her activitiesJOB TYPE: Full Time (Initial 1-year renewal based on performance)
ROLE PURPOSE:

 

The Gender and Safeguard Officer leads VOSIEDA’s gender equality, inclusion, and safeguarding functions across programs and operations. The role ensures that projects integrate gender-responsive and do-no-harm approaches; safeguarding risks are identified and managed; staff, volunteers, and partners comply with VOSIEDA and donor requirements on PSEA, child protection, and protection from abuse, exploitation, harassment, and discrimination; and complaints and referral mechanisms function safely, confidentially, and effectively.

Staff directly reporting to this role: No direct reports; may guide focal persons, interns, and consultants as assigned

 

ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:

Founded in 2000, Volunteers for Sustainable Development in Africa (VOSIEDA) is a Liberian nonprofit organization and a network of development professionals working to promote prosperity, reduce extreme poverty, and strengthen peace and stability in Liberia and the West Africa Mano River Union Basin region. VOSIEDA’s work focuses on saving the planet and fighting extreme poverty among women, youth, children, and other excluded groups. We advance community solutions to address development challenges and empower local people to care for nature that sustains all lives.

VOSIEDA works across five signature programs to empower and support local communities to promote sustainable development to end extreme poverty, its root causes, and consequences in Liberia and West Africa’s Mano River Basin region, including 1). Climate Change & Environmental Sustainability, 2) Food Security & Livelihoods Enhancement, 3) Women’s Empowerment & Gender Equality, 4) Governance & Social Development,

5) Media & Civic Society Strengthening.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

 

· Lead the integration of gender, safeguarding, and social inclusion principles into program design, implementation, and evaluation.

· Develop and implement safeguarding policies, procedures, and training for staff and partners.

· Monitor compliance with safeguarding standards and respond to concerns in line with organizational protocols.

· Conduct gender and social inclusion analyses to inform project strategies.

· Build staff and partner capacity on gender equality, child protection, and safeguarding practices.

· Facilitate awareness campaigns and learning sessions to strengthen inclusive organizational culture.

· Ensure reporting mechanisms for safeguarding concerns are accessible, confidential, and effective.

· Collaborate with MEL teams to track progress on gender and inclusion indicators

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Development Studies, Human Rights, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in gender mainstreaming, safeguarding, or social inclusion within development or humanitarian contexts.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding frameworks, child protection standards, and gender equality principles.
  • Proven experience in policy development, training facilitation, and capacity building.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive issues with discretion.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and marginalized groups.
  • Familiarity with donor safeguarding requirements (USAID, DFID/FCDO, UN agencies, etc.) is an asset.
