The core focus of BIHBV is to provide microfinance services to people, particularly women, living in poverty in rural and hard-to-reach areas to build their financial resilience and improve the quality of life for them and their families.

BRAC first expanded its microfinance operations internationally in 2002 and now operates microfinance (MF) activities in 7/8 developing countries, over 800,000+ clients, 97% women, a loan portfolio of $160 mln+ and 6400+ staff, 87% women.

Head of Finance, BIHBV

BRAC International Microfinance unit is looking for a dynamic and strategic leader as the Head of Finance, who will be working under the direct supervision of the Chief Executive Officer and will be responsible for providing leadership, technical support, supervision, and guidance to the Finance. This position is the custodian of accounting and financial processes to ensure BRAC complies with regulators and BRAC global standards and enables the implementing teams to achieve program targets while driving efficiency. This position manages sufficient funding pipelines for microfinance growth for impact strategy and manages relationships with external stakeholders such as investors, lenders, local banking, and legal authorities. In addition, to strong technical knowledge and experience, she will be a key leadership team member within the organization whose leadership style reflects high Emotional Intelligence (EI) and their ability to lead while nurturing talent in their teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Planning and Analysis:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive financial plans aligned with the organization’s strategic goals.
  • Conduct financial analysis, forecasting, scenario analysis, cost-benefit analysis, trend analysis, and modeling to support decision-making processes.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial reports to the executive team and board of directors.

Risk Management:

  • Implement and monitor effective financial risk management strategies to safeguard the financial assets of the organization.
  • Assess and mitigate financial, operational, and regulatory risks to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, lender covenants etc.

Budgeting and Cost Control:

  • Lead the budgeting process, working closely with department heads to set financial targets and allocate resources efficiently following the annual strategic planning.
  • Implement cost control measures to optimize operational efficiency and improve overall financial performance

Treasury Management:

  • Oversee liquidity management, optimizing the use of funds to meet operational needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify funding opportunities and manage relationships with financial institutions and stakeholders to secure funding at competitive rates.

Capital Structure and Funding:

  • Assess the capital structure of the organization and recommend strategies to optimize the balance between debt and equity.
  • Explore and secure funding sources to support business expansion and capital requirements.
  • Liaise with the Group treasury team regularly on funding needs.

Financial Systems and Controls:

  • Implement and maintain robust financial systems, policies, and controls to ensure the integrity of financial data.
  • Stay abreast of industry best practices and technological advancements to enhance financial processes.
  • Support end-to-end process for annual financial audit.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Develop the skills and capabilities of the finance team to meet the evolving needs of the organization.

Grant Management:

  • Manage grants received in the entity. Ensure full cost recovery budgets for development activities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to the grants stakeholders.

Company secretary duties:

  • Convening and providing administration for Board and Annual General Meetings (AGMs): for example, producing agendas, taking minutes, conveying decisions and handling meeting correspondence.
  • Providing legal, financial and/or strategic advice during and outside of meetings.
  • Advising directors and members of the senior leadership team on corporate governance matters.
  • Inform directors about all the necessary regulations or those which may affect the meetings of shareholders and of the Board of Directors.
  • Keeping up to date with regulatory or statutory changes and policies that might affect the organisation.
  • Ensuring that company policies and required statutory documentations are up to date and are approved.
  • Advise directors on their responsibilities and powers.
  • Ensure that minutes of the meetings of shareholders or the Board of Directors are well prepared and that registers provided for by the incorporation documents are accurately kept.
  • Ensure that all necessary statutory submissions re transmitted to relevant destinations in accordance with the Law and to any person as required by the Law

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety of team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment, and exploitation to achieve the programme’s goals on safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place, and encourage others to do so

Educational & Experience Requirements:

  • Masters in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting
  • At least 10 years of experience in a Managerial position in the Financial, banking, or Microfinance sector.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:

  • Demonstrates high emotional intelligence.
  • Effective team player Exhibits strong leadership capabilities.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Familiar with global accounting standards.
  • Proficient in financial management.
  • Thorough understanding of the country context, law, taxation, and financial regulations.
