We are currently looking for a seasoned HSSE professional to join our team in Liberia as the Head of HSSE Improvement.

He/she will be responsible for:
➢ Shape and implement a HSSE strategy, fully integrated into all business and operation processes. This will involve building strong, effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders at senior levels.
➢ Work proactively with SMT Members and their management teams to ensure that a program of continual improvement in HSSE is fully embedded within their areas of responsibility.
➢ Advise the Managing Director and Senior Management teams on the implications of current and emerging HSSE legislation
➢ Provide assurance that risk is effectively managed through delivery of operations with an equally excellent approach to safety, reliability and quality.
➢ Inspire and lead the HSSE Team.

Key responsibilities

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

HSSE LEADERSHIP

➢ Interpret the Corporate APM Terminals HSSE strategy to co-create a site-specific HSSE vision and strategy with the Senior Management Team, considering the regulatory framework, risk profile, and business drivers.
➢ Empower and enable Operational team members with day-to-day responsibility to implement HSSE related activities (management/implementation/assessment/training) whilst understanding and managing the implications of change to HSSE risk.
➢ Assure all HSSE improvement activities reflect latest legislation and practice, and are effectively embedded within the organisation.
➢ Develop and implement assurance programs, including deep-dives; audits and inspections to assure the level of HSSE engagement, compliance and senior management commitment.
➢ Manage internal and external relationship and create and maintain a stakeholder map ➢ Enable risk management and incident management process and assure critical controls are in place.
➢ Assure critical controls are identified and a control effectiveness and maintenance plan
is developed and implemented
➢ Defining the HSSE requirements of contractors and vendors and assuring provision in contracts, and conformance of contractors at their place of work.

STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP

➢ Create a communication plan based on your stakeholder map and continuously monitor its reach, content and effectiveness.
➢ Influence, engage and support Senior Managers and personnel in developing the HSSE culture.
➢ Implement best practices by embedding strategic HSSE elements in business unit operating and resourcing plans.
➢ Provide technical expertise, strategic leadership, and support across the Senior Management Team.

We are looking for

➢ BSc/MSc Health, Safety, security or environment discipline, NEBOSH diploma or equivalent
➢ 6 – 8 years + Experience in health and safety at a senior level with a proven track record in the delivery of business objectives
➢ Chartered member or working towards chartered membership of IOSH (CMIOSH)
➢ Proven track-record leading and developing teams
➢ Proven track-record of being a key decision maker
➢ Strong leadership skills
➢ Strong negotiation and influencing skills
➢ A demonstration of continued professional development within HSSE
➢ Security / Risk Management qualification (desirable)
➢ ISPS Code (desirable)
➢ Quality qualification (desirable)
➢ Lead Auditor Certification
➢ Environmental Qualification
➢ BCM ISO22301 lead implementer (desirable)
➢ PMP / Lean qualification
➢ English level of minimum 13 – EF
