Job Brief
SEGAL is seeking a responsible Safety Officer that identifies workplace hazards, enforces
safety protocols, conducts inspections, investigates incidents, and trains employees to
create safer work environments and ensure regulatory compliance. The post holder acts
as the operational core of SEGAL’s health and safety program, bridging the gap between
Management expectations and daily field practices.The incumbent will spot dangers
before they escalate into costly accidents, keeping teams protected and operations
running smoothly without disruption.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Conduct routine workplace safety inspections across job sites, facilities, and offices
to identify potential hazards before they cause incidents
* Perform daily site walks to assess high-risk work including fall protection,
excavation, confined space entry, and energized electrical work

* Develop, implement, and regularly update safety policies, procedures, and
programs including the Illness/Injury Prevention Plan (IIPP) and emergency
response plans
* Ensure toolbox talks, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), equipment inspections, and work
permits are completed and documented consistently
* Work closely with ArcelorMittal Health & Safety Department and Security
Department in effectively carrying out these duties and responsibilities
* Investigate workplace accidents, incidents, near misses, and property damage to
determine root causes and implement corrective actions
* Monitor compliance with OSHA standards, verify safety signage is properly
placed, and confirm that exit routes and safety equipment are accessible and
functional
* Conduct new employee safety orientations and ongoing training sessions covering
PPE use, hazard communication, emergency procedures, and safe equipment
handling
* Lead and coordinate safety drills including fire evacuations, chemical spill
responses, and first-aid simulations
* Track and manage employee training records, competencies, and certifications
including OSHA 10/30 and task-specific qualifications
* Maintain accurate documentation of daily inspections, safety meetings, incident
reports, audit results, and corrective action follow-ups
* Spearhead SEGAL’s health and safety program and conduct monthly safety
meetings with detailed agendas and minutes
* Specify and requisition safety materials, tools, and personal protective equipment
as needed
* Oversee hazardous material programs including permits, proper disposal, annual
reporting requirements, and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) management
* Coordinate with Department Supervisors and Managers within SEGAL and AML
to address safety concerns and implement risk prevention measures
* Act as liaison between the SEGAL and external regulatory agencies, insurance
auditors, general contractors, and safety consultants
* Prepare for and support external safety audits by ensuring all required
documentation and compliance evidence is organized and accessible
* Monitor real-time safety data using EHS software and digital dashboards to
identify trends and take preventive action
* Enforce safety policies consistently across all work locations and ensure uniform
standards are maintained at multi-site operations
Requirements and skills
* Bachelor’s degree or associate degree in Occupational Safety, Risk Management,
Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Technology, Engineering, or related field
* Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience administering safety
programs, risk management, or health and safety compliance
* Valid OSHA certification (OSHA 10/30 or equivalent) demonstrating knowledge
of workplace hazards and health standards
* Strong working knowledge of state, and local safety regulations including OSHA
29 CFR 1926, ANSI, NFPA, and ISO 45001 standards
* Proficiency with EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) software for incident
logging, inspection scheduling, corrective action tracking, and compliance
reporting
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey safety
instructions clearly to diverse audiences
* Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities to assess complex
situations and identify root causes of safety incidents
* Exceptional attention to detail for conducting thorough inspections and
maintaining accurate safety documentation
* Leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams, enforce safety protocols, and
manage safety committees effectively
* Ability to handle confidential information appropriately and exercise sound
judgment within policy guidelines
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and
PowerPoint
* Physical ability to access job sites, climb ladders, enter confined spaces, and work
in various weather conditions
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
* NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health)
certification covering risk assessment, hazard control, and legal compliance
* CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification from the Board of Certified Safety
Professionals (BCSP) demonstrating advanced safety management expertise
* Certification as Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or equivalent
specialized construction safety credential
* Registration as a Health and Safety Officer with relevant professional
organizations
* Experience working in construction, manufacturing, oil and gas, warehousing, or
other high-risk industrial environments
* Public agency or governmental experience with knowledge of public sector safety
requirements
* Background in public water system maintenance/construction, emergency
response, or workers’ compensation management
* Experience managing safety programs across multiple sites or remote workforce
locations
* Experience with mobile hazard reporting applications and digital safety
management platforms
* Knowledge of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) reporting requirements
and corporate responsibility standards
* Experience developing and conducting comprehensive safety training programs
and instructional materials
* Understanding of workplace violence prevention programs and COVID-19 safety
protocols
