Term of Reference for Honey beekeeping Specialist/Enterprise

1.1 Background:

BRAC Liberia is implementing a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with the Forestry Development Authority (FDA) supported project under the project entitled “Supporting increased forest-based revenue and livelihoods for forest users and forest fringe communities in the Gola and Grebo-Krahn Landscape of Liberia” LEH GO GREEN.

BRAC Liberia is committed in Supporting increased forest-based revenue and livelihoods for forest users and forest fringe communities in the Gola and Grebo-Krahn Landscape of Liberia” LEH GO GREEN. As part of this commitment, a one-day on the spot coaching/training on honey beekeeping practical knowledge, and techniques as well as production of 200 beehive in to communities across five counties (Cape Mount, Gbapolu, Lofa, Grand Gedeh and River Gee)

  1. Objectives

The primary objectives of the bee hive production and on the spot coaching/training are:

  • To produce beehive at the community to for procurement.
  • Conduct one day on the spot coach/training to enhance farmer practice knowledge on bee keeping
  • To provide Key highlights of beekeeping, site selecting, bee hive construction, installation and hive management.
  1. Scope of Work

The beekeeping Specialist/Enterprise is expected to:

  • To conduct one day on the spot training to ten beekeeping groups in the 5 project counties mentioned above.
  • To provide Key highlights and practical demonstration on beekeeping site selecting, bee hive construction, installation and hive management.
  • Produce 20 beehives in each of the 10 communities along with the farmer group members
  1. Deliverables

The beekeeping Specialist/Enterprise will deliver the following:

  • A key highlight information on beekeeping as mentioned above.
  • Prepare visual aid for demonstration.
  • Conduct practical activities in the production and installation of hives
  1. Duration

The coaching/training will be conducted 10 days over a period of 25 days. While the production of the beehive production will cover 20 days over the period of 25 days. The exact date coming between the months of September and October 2024. The preparation time, including the coaching handout development and hive materials gathering, is expected to be completed prior to the 15th of September.

  1. Location

The coaching/training will be held at a venue provided by BRAC Liberia, within the 5 counties Lofa, Grand Cape Mount, Gbapolu, Grand Gedeh and River Gee to the Specialist/Enterprise.

  1. Budget and Payment

The budget for this coaching session, including the specialist/Enterprise coaching fee, transportation, and hand out costs. The beehives production cost will be agreed upon and provided by BRAC Liberia through the procurement process.

  1. Qualifications

The Specialist/Enterprise is selected based on his:

  • Extensive experience in honey beekeeping and training.
  • Proven track record of conducting successful training sessions.
  • Knowledge of honey beekeeping practices and challenges.
  1. Reporting

Specialist/Enterprise will report to Jonathan S. Q. Ballah at BRAC Liberia and will provide a final report within one week after the training sessions are completed.

  1. Coordination

The AC and PA will assist Specialist/Enterprise with logistical arrangements, participant coordination, and any other support needed to ensure the successful execution of the activities
