Purpose

  • Under the guidance and supervision of the SOS Medical Center Manager, the HOW Project Coordinator will be responsible to ensure that the Hospital on Wheel project, a health program achieve its objectives, improve health outcomes for beneficiaries at community-based level, ensure cost effective and sustainable and conform to SOS rules and policies.

Position Demands

  • 3-5 years relevant or hands on experience preferably with hospitals administration/ health projects.
  • BSc Degree/Diploma in Community Health, Medicine or a similar field.
  • DESIRABLE, Master’s degree in public health or related field.
  • Ability to manage budgets, understand financial accountability procedures, logistics, and commodity tracking
  • Knowledge of gender, equity and diversity, and beneficiary protection principles
  • She /he must always maintain updated professional development to practice in relevant capacity
  • She /He must be capable of running a community’s outreach project/clinical routine with a high standard of efficiency, professionalism & hygiene.
  • She must be observant and aware of the state health of the children at all times.

 

Working Relationship

  • HOW Project Coordinator reports directly to the Medical Center Manager of all situational incidents with clients and staff and all community related outreach activities.
  • She / He should seek the advice of the MC Manager or relevant authorities on pertinent health related matters
  • She/he mains a cordial working relationship with all staff and clients
  • She / He must liaise constantly with the line Manager, the medical /center on matters of critical concern.
  • She / He should be cognizant of psychosocial / Children Protection issues and bring same to the attention of Head Nurse/ relevant CP/NO authorities as soon as possible.

 

Principal Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor of the HOW Project activities within the SOS Medical Center. In that role, develop and mentor the guidelines and procedures of the HOW Project and implementation;
  • Monitor quality of services in the HOW Project including adherence to SOS and MoH protocols and implement remedial steps to improve quality and adherence statutory regulations;
  • Review and evaluate the quality of health information data to ensure good community outreach program services.
  • Monitor data for accuracy, appropriateness of treatments, early warning of outbreaks, impact on health outcomes and timeliness of reporting;
  • Manage an annual performance review of health program staff;
  • Monitor the status of essential equipment and supplies and ensure timely procurement and distribution to meet the needs of health facilities;
  • Monitor the storage, handling and recording of medical supplies and implement remedial steps to avoid losses;
  • Monitor the use of medical supplies and equipment and implement remedial steps to ensure adherence to best practices protocols;
  • Keep informed of current health guidelines and protocols;
  • Maintain contact with beneficiary communities and facilitate a positive relationship between health facility staff and local communities, community-based organization and stakeholders.
  • Monitor and facilitate community health education programs at each health catchment area;
  • Obtain feedback from local communities to evaluate the effectiveness of health services;
  • Submit project and activity reports as required well in time to meet report deadlines;
  • Contribute to the design and development of health project proposals based on best practices and incorporating lessons learnt from previous experience;
  • Participate in external coordination meetings as requested by line manager;
  • Perform other duties as requested by line manager.

Accountability

  • Performance will be assessed by evaluation at least two to three times per year by the Medical Center Manager. Factors which will be considered include but not limited to the following:
  1. Project Coordinator have good professional and ethical ability to deal with general health of all the patients /children and communities’ dwellers.
  2. The efficiency and commitment to duty, working relationship and punctuality
  3. The Project Coordinator ability to cooperate & maintain hygiene / sanitary practices/standards or general cleanness of HOW Project communities.
  4. The Coordinator’s ability to manage clients’ drugs/charts /required services and/ or availability to facilitate client’s needs, partners and communities’ dwellers and stakeholders.
  5. General attitude to work, punctuality, overall performance and other staff and authority

Upgrading

The position grade may be increased if:

  • Further qualifications are gained in hospital administration, communities-based project / medicine if the Project Coordinator deems necessary to improve her competency / performance level.
