Human Resources and Organizational Development Intern

SOS Children’s Villages International is a global organization established in 1949 that works to meet the needs and protect the interests and rights of orphaned and vulnerable children. SOS Children’s Villages International works through member associations in 136 countries and territories worldwide.

SOS Children’s Villages Liberia has been active in the field of children’s rights and committed to children’s need and concerns in Liberia since 1981. We focus our work on children without parental care and children at risk of losing parental care and their communities. The organization has a wide range of programmes in Monrovia and Buchanan, which include children’s villages, a youth facility, kindergartens and schools, a medical center and family strengthening programmes.

Job Title: Intern HROD for SOS Children’s Villages Liberia

HE/SHE reports: HROD Manager

Period: 3 Months (June 1-September 1, 2023)

Position Summary:

As a member of the Human Resources and Organizational Development team, you will be a support to the HROD Manager. The role is supportive of the HR Management, personnel administration and recruitment in compliance with the Federation policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Maintain records of personnel-related data (payroll, personal information, leaves, turnover rates, etc.) in both paper and the database and ensure all employment information requirements are met.

Support the recruitment/hiring process by sourcing candidates, performing background checks, assisting in shortlisting, issuing employment contracts, ID cards, etc.

Schedule meetings, interviews, HR events, etc. and maintain the HROD team’s agenda update records with new hires.

Assist in ad-hoc HROD projects, like collection of employee feedback.

Perform other duties/tasks as required by the supervisor and National Director Assist with day-to-day operations of the HROD functions and duties.

Provide clerical and administrative support to HROD Manager

Assist in payroll preparation by providing relevant data (absences, bonus, leaves, etc.) Coordinate communication with candidates and schedule interviews.

Scan documents for filing purposes.

Requirements

Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to handle data with confidentiality.

Good organizational and time management skills

Familiarity with ATS software and resume database

Basic knowledge of labor laws

Excellent organizational skills

Strong communications skills

BSc/BA in Human Resources or Business Administration or relevant field; additional education in Human Resource Management will be a plus.

Accountability & Working Relationship

The HROD Intern supports the HROD Manager in the day-to-day HR functions. S/he reports directly to the HROD Manager and deputizes the HROD Manager as need be. Other functions of the HROD Intern include the following:

The Performance will be assessed by the HROD Manager, the factors that will be considered are:

  1. a) Overall performance of duties of HROD Intern
  2. b) Personal Behavior and attitude to work and with co-workers.

Child Protection & Sexual Exploitation

Protect children from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination.

Report any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately: IF IN DOUBT, SPEAK OUT!

Act without delay: Failure to act may place the child in further danger.

Involve the right people at the right time: CS reports should be made to the CS team at programme level and/or to the respective line manager.

Qualifications/Competencies required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in management or human Resource.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience in the field of HRM.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent command of the English language and highly developed communication skills both written and spoken.
  • Positive and professional approach: highly organized, deadline conscious, able to work independently, using initiative, keeping commitments, and leading a team. Good knowledge of children’s rights.
  • Very developed computer skills especially MS Office and Excell.
