POSITION: IP Engineer

Report to : ICT & IP Network Manager

Role Summary/Purpose

As IP Engineer your primary mission is to design, implement, and maintain the IP network infrastructure. You have to ensure high availability, reliability, and security of the network to support various services and applications provided by the organization.

Main activities

Technical activities:

• Network Design and Implementation:
  • Design and configure IP networks, including routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Implement routing protocols like OSPF, BGP, and MPLS to optimize data flow and minimize latency.
• Maintenance and Upgrades:
  • Perform regular network maintenance and system upgrades, including patches and hot fixes.
  • Monitor system resource utilization and plan for capacity upgrades to ensure network scalability.
• Technical Support and Troubleshooting:
  • Provide Level-1 and Level-2 support for network issues, resolving faults and performing corrective maintenance.
  • Conduct technical audits and service migrations to ensure network performance and reliability.
• Security Management along with ITN Security team:
  • Implement security measures to protect the network from cyber threats such as malware and hacking.
  • Ensure compliance with security policies and best practices for firewall rules and network access.
• Optimization and Innovation:
  • Continuously seek opportunities to optimize traffic distribution and improve network performance.
  • Develop automation tools and systems to enhance network management and operational efficiency
• Collaboration and Documentation:
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure seamless integration and operation of network services.
  • Document network configurations, changes, and maintenance activities for future reference and compliance.
• Administrative and organization activities:
• Participate in the evaluation of suppliers
• Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of the network.
  • Generate reports on IP related Nodes, identifying trends and areas for improvement
• Write and update all deliverables related to projects or developments
• Participate in the various technical committees (Expert committee, architecture review…)
• Process Improvement:
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency of Network operations.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and incorporate best practices into the Network procedures
  • Perform or ensure the training of the operational team and users.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align network plans with business objectives.

Education Qualifications Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or relevant technology field
• 2+ years of work experience as a Network Engineer in Operations or Support centers is an added advantage.

Job Specific Competencies

• Technical Expertise: Proficiency in IP networking, including knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and various routing protocols.
• Certifications: Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent will be an added advantage.
• Problem-solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve network issues.
• Communication: Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical information clearly.
• Any relevant IT certificate from a recognized professional body will be an added advantage.
