IT Assistant
Based in: Monrovia – Liberia

Purpose of Role
The Information Technology Assistant will be responsible for the installation, operation,
and maintenance of computer systems and other technologies, such as
communication systems. The Assistant’s duties include configuring hardware and
software, setting up peripherals such as printers or internet routers, repairing
equipment, and providing daily support for WaterAid Liberia’s computer network users.
Description
The IT Assistant will work as the first point of contact to answer calls and e-mails
regarding the Country Programme’s IT System. As an IT Assistant, s/he will make sure
the Local Area Network, Wide Area Network and all other communication systems are
well kept for daily operations.
S/he will also liaise with the regional CP IT Officers, especially the UK team to help
shape WaterAid Liberia’s IT infrastructure. The IT Assistant will also be responsible
for writing reports, tracking IT inventory, negotiating support services with vendors,
and developing contingency plans in case of network or system failure. The IT
Assistant may also be asked to assist in other technological specialties, such as
content management sites and graphic designing.
Main Duties
1. Ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of WAL’s IT Systems and
Maintaining the computer networking system in the office environment by
Monitoring server activities using Cisco Meraki cloud system.
2. Making sure the Active Directory system is powered on at the beginning of
the day and shut down properly after close of work
3. To monitor, evaluate and ensure WAL’s active internet connection at all times
and run bandwidth (uplink and downlink) as agreed in the Service Level
Agreement with the ISP
4. Diagnose software and hardware challenges and advice on defective
components
5. Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing
environments including computer hardware, system software, applications
software and all configurations.
6. Plan, coordinate and implement network security measures in order to
protect data, software and hardware
7. Organize routine maintenance and support including cleaning of computers,
printers, and running of disk clean up utilities on a regular basis
8. Perform internet security scans using the webroot Antivirus System and
monitor antivirus dashboard for any potential web or computer attacks.
9. Responsible for all IT related support, setting up trainings, meetings,
workshops, and all Voice Over IP calls using the appropriate tools
10.Provide technical advice for the management of IT equipment in the office.
11. All other IT related work as may be assigned by the Finance and IT Manager
or his/her assign.
12. Keep the IT room tidy at all time and avoid unauthorized entry into the IT
room
13. Induct new staff on the use of WaterAid IT Systems
14. Regularly ask WaterAid IT equipment users for any needed IT support
15. To work along with office authorities to ensure your duties are carried out in
line with WaterAid values and practices
16.Advice on the purchase of IT equipment and IT related materials for the CP
Key Requirements
• A minimum 2 years’ experience in Administering and supporting computer
networks and server management. Windows Server 2012 and above. Excellent
knowledge of Local and Global Active Directory, technical management,
information analysis and of computer hardware/software.
• Bachelor’s degree or Diploma/Professional Certifications (with 3 years’ working
experience) in information systems, computer science, or related field.
• Experience and command over ICT tools and network systems like IP
Telephony, Programmable switches, Internet Routers, Gateways devices and
Cat5/6e cabling experience.
• Willingness to learn quickly and to keep skills up to date through self learning
and to develop in line with industry best practice (Information Technology
Infrastructure Library (ITIL)).
• Hands-on experience with computer networks, network administration and
internet/network installation
• Knowledge about supporting any client side programme management and
financial system
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
