JOB DESCRIPTION: LABORATORY AID AT SOS MEDICAL CENTER

Position: Laboratory Aid
Location: SOS Medical Center
Department: Laboratory Services
Reports To: Laboratory Manager

Job Summary:
SOS Medical Center is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Laboratory Aid to support the laboratory team in a variety of tasks. The Laboratory Aid will assist in performing basic laboratory procedures and ensuring the smooth operation of laboratory functions. The position requires adherence to SOS Children’s Villages policies, particularly regarding child protection, confidentiality, and ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with basic laboratory procedures, including preparing samples for analysis, assisting with the collection and labeling of specimens, and ensuring proper storage of samples.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory, including cleaning and sterilizing equipment, instruments, and work areas.
  • Help in the preparation, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and tools, ensuring they are functioning properly.
  • Assist in the documentation and record-keeping of laboratory test results, ensuring proper labeling and storage of test samples.
  • Ensure strict adherence to laboratory protocols, safety guidelines, and infection control procedures.
  • Follow all SOS Children’s Villages policies, including child protection, health and safety regulations, data privacy standards, and ethical guidelines.
  • Support laboratory audits and inspections as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Certificate or diploma in medical laboratory technology
  • Some experience working in a laboratory or healthcare setting is preferred,
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), for record-keeping and communication.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions carefully.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to maintain a clean and orderly laboratory.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position with potential for shift work, including evenings or weekends.
  • Work will be performed primarily in a clinical laboratory environment.
