The organization has a wide range of programmes in Monrovia and Buchanan, which include children’s villages, a youth facility, kindergartens and schools, a medical center and family strengthening programmes

Job Title: Laboratory AIDE SOS Children’s Villages Medical Center. HE/SHE Reports: PHYSICIAN ASST /Medical Doctor

Deadline: April 24, 2023

To facilitate & assist to manage the running of the Laboratory section of the Hospital on Wheels Project with efficiency. Manage all apparatuses and appliances for the conduct & processing / analyzing medical specimen for rapid testing.

Position Demands

Laboratory Aide must have at least one year post graduate qualification with at least 2 -3 years’ experience in laboratory science/practice.

Must acquire and maintain an updated certificate/ diploma in Medical Laboratory Assistant Program.

She/he must conduct rapid laboratory screening tests (Malaria RDT, Typhoid RDT, Hgb using hemocue machine, etc.)

She/he must have vast knowledge in laboratory investigation (science). She/he must be able to collect monthly data of findings

She/he must have excellent communication skills, with good spoken and written English. Computer literacy is a plus.

Working Relationship

The laboratory technician reports regularly and directly to the Physician Assistant and the Program Coordinator.

She/he must respect the SOS hierarchy and must adhere to SOS employee’s Handbook and Terms of Conditions in relating to all co-workers/staff.

Principal Responsibilities

She/he must ensure that the laboratory is properly utilized & absolutely clean at all times.

She/he must ensure that the laboratory has adequate stocks of the relevant reagents to carry out lab tests.

She/he must keep record of all laboratory tests performed.

Accountability

Performance will be assessed by evaluation at least twice per year by the Program Coordinator. Factors which will be taken into account are:

Observing and promoting best practice health delivery system & professional laboratory management/practice

Ensure accuracy of findings & timely reporting.

The efficiency with which the laboratory is run.

The cleanliness of the laboratory.

The effective & proficient management of the reagents and lab equipment. Punctuality & professionalism on the job.

Upgrading

The position grade may be increased if:

Experience is gained and the lab technician significantly improves his/her performance. Child Protection & Child Safeguarding

  • Protect children from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination.
  • Report any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately: IF IN DOUBT, SPEAK OUT!
  • Act without delay: Failure to act may place the child in further danger.
  • Involve the right people at the right time: CS reports should be made to the CS team at programme level and/or to the respective line manager.
