REPORTING TO: Laboratory Chemist BUSINESS UNIT: AM Liberia
PRIMARY FUNCTION OF JOB (Mission)
Assist all Laboratory Chemists and Technicians with conducting tests, processing specimens, and performing a variety of
administrative tasks to ensure that quality is achieved in all Laboratory works at ArcelorMittal Liberia mining sites. This
job will also involve cleaning and sanitizing equipment, setting up experiments, and recording data for report writing and
analysis.
MAJOR DUTIES OF JOB HOLDER Main Responsibilities. (Mention the differentiating factors, end products
and accountabilities where no signoff is needed)
Based on supervision by the Laboratory Chemist:
✓ Carry out experiments and tests, keeping note of any unexpected changes and developments.
✓ Monitor test results and analyse them to observe any trends, findings, or anomalies. Also, prepare slides for review
or compile reports that outline the experiment’s outcome as may be required.
✓ Maintain a clean and tidy laboratory: ensure that all equipment is thoroughly cleaned and sterilized so as not to
impact any future tests or experiments.
✓ Ensure all records are kept up to date so that other team members have a clear understanding of when the project and
individual tasks were completed.
✓ Ensure proper disposal of all hazardous and non-hazardous laboratory waste.
✓ Ensure that the laboratory is always well stocked and reorder supplies that are running low in a timely manner.
✓ Adhere to all timelines to improve performance on sample turnaround time.
Safety
✓ Adhere to all Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.
✓ Be properly always attired in compulsory P.P.E (safety goggles, coverall, safety shoes, helmets, hand gloves etc.)
✓ Actively contribute to site safety policy and new initiatives and respect the implementation of change as directed.
✓ Attend all monthly safety meetings with department personnel and ensure the agreed action plans are achieved.
✓ Participate in a pro-active safety culture by the identification, development, and review of safe practices and
procedures and by ensuring the awareness of all departmental personnel.
✓ Actively promote the compliance of personnel with safe work practices.
✓ Ensure all incidents are reported and investigated according to Company and statutory requirements and all
recommended corrective actions are completed.
✓ Ensure all health and hygiene risks in the work areas are identified and reported.
Environment
✓ Ensure all incidents are reported and investigated according to Company policy and statutory requirements and all
recommended corrective actions are completed.
✓ Seek advice and assistance from the Environment team in the development and implementation of improvement
programmes to achieve aspects such as agreed eco-efficiency targets, hazardous waste disposal and spill cleanup.

✓ Participate in personal Training and Development to improve skills.
Education Requirements for this position (Formal qualifications)
Essential
✓ Completion of Secondary Education /12th grade graduate (WAEC/WASSCE certificate Division III and above).
✓ Must understand some basic Chemistry, Biology, Trigonometry, etc.
✓ Basic Microsoft Office knowledge (Word, EXCEL, POWERPOINT) is an advantage.
Desirable
✓ Postsecondary certificate in biotechnology or biological science
✓ Experience working in the mining industry
Key experiences needed prior to taking this position
Essential
✓ Minimum 1 to 2 years’ experience within the Mining industry and or environment
Desirable
✓ Knowledge of Mine Laboratory practices.
✓ Good communication skills, both written and oral.
✓ Computer Literacy (MS Office).

✓ Analytical skills – successful candidate must be able to take an analytical approach to tasks to spot anomalies and
trends in data.
✓ Communication skills – successful candidate will work closely with colleagues to carry out tests and follow
procedures, so there is a need for great communication skills.
✓ Dexterity – successful candidate will work with precision tools and carry out a lot of tests with the hands, there is
a need to be dexterous and capable of using these tools efficiently.
✓ Computer knowledge – handling computerized lab equipment and creating reports require basic computer
knowledge and the ability to pick up new software and programs quickly.
✓ Attention to detail – follow instructions and procedures accurately to carry out tests, so attention to detail is
incredibly important.
✓ Be able to read and write effectively
✓ Works effectively and efficiently as a team.
