We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Specialist for a USAID-funded Liberia Local Health Solutions (LHS) project. Activities under this project will enhance the functions of the Liberian health system to sustainably deliver improved quality of health services that are responsive to the needs of the population. This contracted position is project-based and the duration is limited to the successful award and renewal of the project.

The Lab Specialist will support laboratory capacity building activities for the USAID Liberia Local Health Solution (LHS) with the goal of improving the quality of care of medical laboratories. Working under the direction of the Senior Laboratory Advisor, he/she will provide technical assistance to the regional laboratories and County Health Teams to strengthen laboratory reporting, disease surveillance and quality improvement systems. Their role is to assess systems, processes, and policies, as well as to ensure that all laboratory employees are empowered to operate and manage the laboratories in accordance with and in alignment with legal rules and standards for providing public services using best practices.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Support in implementing the LHS project activities in the counties representing Africabio in the laboratory data collection for IDSR pathogens from the LHS supported counties Conduct supportive supervision and bench side mentorship to the LHS supported

laboratories in the counties to strengthen their testing capacities for AMR and other priority pathogens

Provide technical support in collection and transport of quality specimen from the facility wards to the laboratory

Support AMR laboratory surveillance data reporting to the National AMR unit of the MOH.

Coordinate LHS project activities in the counties and with laboratory management of the Africabio LHS project.

Qualifications Requirements:

BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field

Minimum 8 years of experience in clinical laboratories with experience in a laboratory quality management role a plus

Knowledge and experience in the laboratory diagnosis of infectious diseases including specific hands-on laboratory experience in microbiology.

Knowledge and experience with strengthening laboratories to achieve international quality standards such as ISO 15189.

Familiarity with international biosafety regulations; specimen referral system, laboratory information management and laboratory inventory management system.
